Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My info seems very different from yours Darkshadow
Unfortunately Mysticality, i reckon you have the heavyweight
Logically - the 125TDI is the monster engine - has all the diesel weight with the larger turbo and more complex emissions system. The 147 petrol isnt far behind because it too is a complex engine with plenty of valves and big manifolds etc. Add to that the luxury models having all the extra weight of climatronic and bigger wheels, even the weight of nice upholsery if you have leather (is that an option?) and things get heavy.
According to my info, if you want a lightweigh octy, you should have gone for one ofthe low power european models - like the 1.4l 59kw petrol with 5 speed manual - 1230 liftback and 1245 for the combi.Last edited by gldgti; 18-06-2012, 10:35 PM.'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

Whereas, the 8V head is a fair bit more compact than the 16V and weighs a lot less. The biggest weight differences are in the gearboxes though.'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

1cc of air = 0.013g at sea level i think 20 degrees celcius.
22.5cc x 0.013 = 0.29g
i think the difference has already been stated enough times, gearbox, manifolds and ancillaries would make up a bulk of the weight differences

Anyway, 90cc of STEEL weighs about 200g.... so basically all i was saying is that if you bored out a 1.9 block to 2.0l (to the exact size they are from VW) the 2.0L block would only be about 200grams lighter.Last edited by gldgti; 19-06-2012, 09:32 PM.'07 Touareg V6 TDI with air suspension

Don't forget the 22PSI of boost... If the turbo is roughly 16 square inches, thats a total of 774.4kg!!
Actually, I've been recently wondering if its possible to bore out the heads on the TDI to make it a 2.2 or so.
I'm still a bit antsy that my new shiny European sports wagon has less power/torque/capacity than my Kia SUV that I traded in.
125kW/350Nm/2.0ltr
146kW/436Nm/2.2ltr
I know its just bragging rights, but hey!!2012 Octavia vRS TDI. Darkside big turbo, 3bar tune, other stuff. 200kW/650Nm.
