  • The new 'Onyx' interior on the vRS. Is it standard?

    Hi all,

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new Candy White vRS wagon in July but found something interesting.

I have seen the chatter on here and elsewhere about the new all black Onyx interior that essentially replaces the light grey alcantara patches on the seats with black and also changes all stiching to red. I must admit, I am not a fan of the grey inserts and would love the new black scheme

Is this now standard fitment for 2012 models? I have confirmed that the black fascia panels are a 2012 upgrade, but I am unable to find out if the new interior colour is an option or simply the new standard.

It might sound strange, but I have no idea what mine will have - I have sourced the car via Stratton finance (saved me thousands too!!), did not spec the leather and even the dealer supplying the car cannot tell me what colour it will be!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

    BEN

i believe the "black" is now standard.
along with the "carbon look" fascia inserts.

it will still come with "silver" 18" neptunes as std, however "black" 18" neptunes r now available.

Sounds good to me Shadow. Thanks for the info.

A couple of cars appear on carsales.com.au with the black interior, but not even the Skoda website has any info on it.

I can only hope that my car comes like that. I much prefer the black fabric and the darker fascia trim...I will reserve judgement on how 'carbon' the carbon fibre trim actually looks until I see it in the flesh.

Wish I knew about the black wheels though, I will get mine powder coated anyway.

      Cheers,

      BEN.

I was looking with a cousin at a Yeti a few weekends ago and I sat in an MY12 RS TSI hatch that had the new facia/trim. I was impressed. The only thing I don't like about my Octavia's interior is the silver bits of alcantara because they get dirty and the all-black trim would be a fix. The carbon fibre trim I don't like in photos but it looked great in person and the red stitching on the seats + steering wheel looks fantastic. As for if it's standard or not I'm not sure, but I hope so!

I agree Jake, the grey is the only thing I don't like about the interior. I do plenty of K's in my cars, often having to eat and treat it like a mobile office so I am concerned about the light patches getting dirty.

Having seen the balck pics early on, I thought of having my brother in law (an auto and marine upholsterer) re do the grey bits in black and reproduce the vRS logos on the seat backs. Of course it wouln't have the red stiching, but would still look good if done well.

i've been thinking about doing this too - getting the grey alcantra dyed black, somehow.
maybe i get some black ink, a sponge & start pressing away............

            it sure looks good.

HA - that would look great - maybe like tie dye! Or you could use a Sharpie instead?

I was just thinking a straight re-upholster of the grey bits in perforated black alcantara with original style logos, but I like the creativity.

I have the onyx black full leather interior but has black stitching.
Looks good but would be even better with red thread I reckon.

I actually asked Phil, the Skoda guy at Allan Mackay Auto's (where I got the car) about it, and he pretty much said "Black Alcantara? Really?"

Seeing as its not on the Skoda website... Perhaps they haven't told them about it yet. :S

that interior would look good with the silver trim instead of the carbon bits IMO

Nice new interior , carbon if its similar to the GTI will be nice , drove a superb with it and it looked classy, compared to that horrible wood grain they use .

They have certainly bought the look closer to a GTI which is a good thing , seats look up market .

It will be interesting to see if they charge extra for the black wheels or not too.

I will be blacking mine soon and I have an quotes on powder coating between $150-300. If they try to pull a BMW just for the colour it might be best to go the DIY route. (Black wheels on an X5 cost around $4000!!!!!!!)

I prefer silver trim also, otherwise the interior is too dark, but the seats are very nice. I got full leather due to young kids and general abuse which I don't regret for a second. In my GTI with cloth interior my 18 month old son decided he would dispose of the remains of his "babycino" over my rear seats. Thank god for scotchguarding but just demonstrated the worth of the leather in the "family" car.
