  • Recall 23K5 Octavia TDI

    Hi All,
Received a recall notice today from VW for 'resonances in certain operating conditions that could over the long term cause cracks on an injector pipe'.

Anyone have any specific details on this?

Not too concerned, have first service coming up anyway but thought I'd share.

Got mine today as well. A part failing due to metal fatigue does't happen overnight. I'm about 4000km off first service, but am getting that done at Camden GTI. I can't wait to see if I have to give the car up for a day for a 1hr recall fix.

There is a thread on this in the diesel section.

      Sorry, can't post a link.

Well mine is a December 2009 reg vRS with the 125kW engine and I got the letter today so I guess that's what a 23K5 is.

I rang to book my Skoda in for the recall repair today. i was advised by the dealer service rep that while VW Aust has been sending letters out that indicate 1 hour is the repair time that they want the car for 2 -3 hours. When I asked how it could possibly take up to 3 hours to change a single injector pipe I was told "Oh, well, we have to check the lights and fluid levels as well."

Never mind that I will have to have Mrs. BS drive me 30 mins to the dealer in the AM peak then back, then another round trip in the PM peak to pick it up, because seemingly the dealer service department won't budge on their "Give us your car for the day" policy. And then we get to do it all again, as Mrs BS has a Golf VI TDI DSG. For service is one thing, but for a recall minor fix due to an error in production (Let's face it someone forgot to put vibration dampening on the pipe clamps)... Not happy.

Get them to give you a loan car for goodness sake.
This is a Skoda stuff up (or VW group I guess) it's up to them to put it right and not to totally inconvenience you.

It's obviously a little job that should take well under an hour. They would get to it when they have a bloke free between other jobs. Since the time taken for mechanical jobs can't be judged to the minute they can't say beforehand when they have that slot free.

If you lived very close and could be rung and there in 10 minutes, sure they could have a turn around time of an hour, but in the real world they need you to leave it there for a few hours. I reckon that's completely understandable. Though in this case (a recall) it'd be nice if they could offer you a car to use if it was really that inconvenient.

Does it affect Superb 125 TDIs as well?

Might have to give Skoda Aust ( or maybe the service guys here in newcastle ) a call as the dealer we bought through has forfeited their franchise and I've moved house since I'v bought the car. So I guess my letter is bouncing around Aust Post back room somewhere

The recall letters are on VW Australia letterhead. If you are uncertain about your car and the recall you can call any Skoda dealer service department and they will do a quick check of the VAG databases and let you know if your car is subject to the recall.

Mrs BS has a Golf VI TDI DSG which she bought as a demo. Unlike new dealer cars her demo was registered to the dealership prior to her buying it. When she didn't get a recall letter I suspected that the recall had gone to the dealership, and that hadn't advised VAG they Mrs. BS was the new owner, which is why she didn't get a recall letter. The service rep at the dealership confirmed that her car does require recall, and was apologetic, and said that it was "lucky" that I'd figured out what had happened.

There is provision on the recall letter for previous owners to provide the details of the current owner they sold their car to, and then return it to VAG. If anyone has bought a car already registered, and doesn't solely want to rely on VAG's method of hoping people will bother to send the info back of the current owner, then do yourself a favour and call a dealer service rep. It takes less than a minute for them to run your VIN in their database. Likewise, if you just want to put your mind at ease, as is dazag's circumstance, as to whether you are subject to the recall or not, just give a dealer service rep a call.

It would be nice if they offered that level of service mate. Alas, all I got was an offer of a lift to the nearest rail station.

And that's why me and the misses will both get our cars serviced by Matt and his crew at Camden GTI. First class work, sensible prices, and a loan car for the period the cars are in their immaculately kept shop. Camden sounds like a long way out, but I live about 12 km from the Sydney CBD, and it only takes me just over 30 mins to get there straight up the M5.

                          if only that was case.
in my case (wastegate rattle on acceleration for 2lt TSI engine) - "it only applies to vw. it's not for skoda. skoda needs to issue their own technical bulletin".
in other words, its a vw logo, not a skoda logo, on the TB, so shoo.

despite the FL RS having the exact same engine (EA888 CCZ) as the mk6 GTi, the vw service centre refused to install the clip on my car.
they need seperate instructions for skodas!!

there is no "VwAG" when is comes to dealers and warranty work!!
                          .....in canberra atleast.

there is a skoda tpi for wastegate rattle darkshadow. A few people have spoken about it on here already.

There is 23k5/23k2 for skoda/vw respectively I believe it only covers 2010-2011 2.0L CR tdi of any kilowatt.

It is a quick job. 5mins tops, takes longer to do the paperwork. T5 will take longer as it has extra work

Yeah I confirmed with both my service centre and with VW/Skoda Aust that my Face lift Aug 2009 build RS TDI was not listed for recall, so all good here.
