Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
Do not do it if you have cornering fogs.
And you must turn off coming/leaving home with the aftermarket HID kit.
Coming/leaving home and cornering fogs have a fading affect that is brought about by slowly lowering the voltage from 12 to 0. This will kill the ballast/bulb... And ontop of that makes a horrible buzzing/cracking sound.
Be wary - I had my Body Control Module die on me. Haven't travelled enough to give feedback on the replacement one.
Do it at your own risk.
However - Absolutely recommended. Light throw is perfect.
Only issue is you need to lower the headlights about 0.5 to get the same height as the stock Halogen. (So you're not the idiot who blinds people)

is there a way to program out the fade up and down for fogs?
and yes i turned on cornering fogs, easy to turn off
thanks for the info regarding height. yes, so many people with aftermarket kits dont adjust afterwards. i guess they cant get the burner in the exact same spot as the halogen
I would love to program out the fade for coming/leaving home, but I rather personally like the fade for cornering fogs.
Besides, HID's need time to warm up, so cornering fogs with HID wouldn't be very feasible.

HID globes, by design, are a different shape to Halogens, which is why you can't 'upgrade' a standard reflector to HID. (Bar some)
To the best of my knowledge, large manufacturers are working out ways of making 'shorter,' 'more true to the original' upgrade replacements.
Personally, I like halogen fogs. They give off a more yellow light, which ends up being better... In the fog. (Of which there is a lot, here)

If you wouldn't mind sharing which LED license plate lights you get that don't throw a bulb out warning I'd appreciate it.
The 'CANbus error free' lights I got look the part but car detects bulb out. I don't want to add inline resistors so am happy to put up with the errors until I get a proper replacement. The ones I have now work fine in a MkV Golf, and in my previous A3 but newer cars seem to be more sensitive...
I think I'm gonna go with the ones listed in GTI Dave's build thread.
MTC, or something.
$70 but they have all the LED's and are VW originals, as I recall.
@Cranks-
Yeah. Bog standard eBay $60 HID kits. No error codes.
I'm not actually sure that the Octy even HAS front bulb error codes. I know it does for the indicators (detailed in a previous post), but not for the headlights.
@zei20t-
I'm actually running 35W low beam and 35W high beam bulbs with 55W ballasts.
I know, its not exactly the right thing to do, but its the only one I had on hand. Am currently a quarter of the ways through the ordering of some 35w ballasts. Damn this chinese shipping time... 6wks. Oh, well. Its free...
@tooch-
You mean yellow bulbs in the stock fog reflector?
Was considering this myself, but need to find a reseller first.
... Actually, should first work out what kinda whacky bulb goes in there. Probably HB3 or something ridiculous.
