$762.40 not including installation. So the dealer can still sting you for that reprogram. Cheaper from the UK.
You can reprogram the car yourself with the VCDS doo dah:
Cheapest direct from them (rather than locally or the UK) - about $410. A very useful tool as well.

I know this thread is a bit old but I can see at least one person who might be able to help me.
I have a 2010 Octy vRs Wagon with Best Bar (detach tongue) fitted (factory ordered).
For the life of me I can't get the bar off. It rattles and bangs when cornering. I've undone the spring loaded pin and pulled it all the way through, but the bar still won't budge. There appears to be some sort of bolt/nut underneath towards the front of the vehicle, but undoing that nut didn't do a thing, and it seems to make no difference with it in or out. There's plenty of sideways play in it, but I can't pull it out (I've been trying to pull it backwards towards the rear of the car)
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Cameron

Cameron, you appear to have done all that is necessary. The pin holds the tongue in and the bolt or grub screw is just there to stop the tongue rattling. With both removed/loosened, the tongue should just slide out. There might be some burr or dag on the tongue or dirt or gravel caught somewhere which is stopping removal? A drift and hammer might persuade the tongue to move.
Good luck, Ivars.

Actually what seems to be a bolt is actually a 17mm nut on a set screw. The set screw has a hex allen key hole in the centre. To remove the toungue you need to loosen the 17mm nut then loosen with an Allen key the set screw and the tounge should slide out once the pin is removed. This has to be pushed in from the left side and rotated so the lock pin in the end lines up with a slot on the right hand side of the carrier and then withdrawn to the left.

And for those interested, after over 3 months fighting with VAG, the correct labels are available for the towbars fitted to both the Scout and RS wagon. The previos bars only listed "Octavia" as the type of vehicle and gave a max rating of 1200kg. The Scouts is supposed to be 1600kg and also breached ADR regs as not being correctly labelled for the model of vehicle it was fitted to! This was the main thing that got them moving at it as I threatened to bring it to the relevant authorities attention as well as they were liable to re-imburse owners who received fines for towing with the incorrect load labelled bar!
If you have one of the bars with the incorrect label, ask your dealer to contact VAG to get the correct label set sent to them which they have to fit as a FREE service. 1 label to drivers door "B" pillar, 1 label onto the main bar fitted to vehicle (Skirt removal required.) and 1 label on the top of the towbar removeable tounge. Ask the dealer to save the old removed labels and produce them to you when you collect the car as proof of correct ADR compliance update!- Storm Blue Metallic / CS Aeromesh Onyx trim MY2011 (3/11 manufacture.)
