Here's the Polk Audio speaker on the door. I made the mount from three layers of MDF. It's not centred on the door hole, it centres lower on the grill in the door panel.

If you're wondering why I put the grill on the speaker, it's so I didn't bump a hole in the speaker while working on it and then I left it so it subtley shows through the door panel.

Gawd - used nearly 2 sheets of DynaLiner in the boot. 4 all together in the whole car floor & boot (not the doors or wheel arches) and still didn't have enough to do under the rear seat. Getting another 2 packs. This stuff off gases like mad so you will want to unroll it and leave it out for a few days if possible.

        Hey all,

Have just completed sound proofing of the boot area, and can I say... WOW...

I recently got the 2nd half (cat-back) of the exhaust done after doing the dumpipe last year, and because its a wagon its pretty noisy in the cabin.

Well, took everything apart today and put around 30-40% coverage of dynamat extreme on the floor, side panels and wheels arches, then put a full layer of soundproofing material I purchased from ebay in the same areas...

Took it for a drive and it has cut out plenty of noise from the exhaust, and in actual fact, its all I can really hear...

Here is the link the sound proofing material I bought...
        Ebay link
It weighs around 2kg per roll and so far I have used almost 4 rolls and will add another roll or 2 underneath the rear seat so overall it will add 15kg which im not fussed about...

Here is a pic of one side nearly done before I put everything back on....

To anyone thinking about doing it, weelll worth the money spent... I just wish I could also do under the front seats and in the doors... but will be a bit to much fiddling around I reckon...

Planning on doing whole boot/spare wheel well/rear arches and hopefully front doors when I get the new car. The spare wheel well and rear arches are the best bang for buck for noise reduction I reckon.

I wouldnt mind also doing front of the rear wheel arches, but taking those side bolsters off seemed impossible... So much so, that the top part of the right one is lose if the seats are down (which is very rare), but still want to work out how to get it back in place...

Unfortunately, I found that I couldnt do the hole wheel arch because the side carpet panels wouldnt go back in...

However, im very happy with the result...

As mentioned, just gotta do under the rear seats and might also do the hatch if I can be bothered.

There is a metal prong captured in a metal hoop attached to the wheel arch (near the bottom)

                    Thanks martin,

Got the rear door cover off quite easy and filled it with sound proofing....

The bolster, I could get the top clip off but it was still connected at the bottom somehow.. All good tho, managed to get some proofing in there and will get Skoda to look at it when I take it there next week...

Now, I'm wondering what else can be done to quieten down the cabin a bit more from the exhaust... I'm thinking something under the car where the exhaust/muffler is housed..??

                    Any ideas...?

                    • If you have access to a hoist, you can paint on that body deadener on the underside. It's thick like tar, and looks like it too! dries rock hard and should provide further dampening to the car. Will obviously add even more weight though. Looks like you're approaching the limit of how quiet the car car be made (maybe you can get the glass replaced with some custom made insulated glass - that would be huge $$$ though)

EDIT: Probably cheaper to get a better exhaust. I found on my v8 commodore, there was a huge difference in sound between a cheap exhaust and an expensive one. Cheap sounded ok, loud as hell and droned like a mofo. Expensive exhaust sounded bloody awesome, and was almost stock quiet when cruising on highway. Only roared if you gave it the beans, like a good exhaust should.

Yeh was thinking of that spray but probably a bit excessive...

Maybe next car ill spend more $$ but I'm pretty happy with mine tbh... And for $1100 total for the full system u can't go wrong... Plus according to mates it sounds pretty wild when they have heard me driving and giving it the boot and its also quiet when just cruising... So happy with it...

                        • Sorry to revive and old thread but do you guys know if taking apart the trims on a lift back vs a wagon is much different?

I am going to take apart the boot trims of my FL Octavia to sort some rattles out

I think something fell through into cavity between the trim and the boot as well!

Gonna dynamat it while I'm at it have some leftover.

                          Any tips appreciated !

                          • Octavia Wagon sound deadening

Sound minimisation in my experience with 2 different Octavias over 6 years is 80 % due to tyres. Sure you can put in mats and kits and seals but the most bang for your buck is changing to a quieter tyre.

                            • Lol I'll change the tyres in time

But I have rattles to fix ! And **** that's dropped into the abyss which I need to remove the carpets to get to

It's more or less the same fitment.

If you don't think it's going to break then you haven't bent it far enough.
