This is the reply I received today from Skoda Australia:
BTW did you seriously think that Skoda, who have probably spent millions if dollars researching and designing a new logo, testing it, getting it approved by the VW board and arranging new dies, stationery, corporate clothing and dealer branding, web sites, etc ready for a launch at what will no doubt be a major event would respond to your email any other way?
"Oh yes sir. We have a new logo it's virtually ready to go but don't tell anybody it's a secret"
Does it really matter? I don't choose my cars by logo. Do you?
Yes I agree that's why I'm trying to point out that logos change as time change.
Looking at that list of images I posted above the first VW I drove would have been 5 logos old, the first Ford 3 logos old, the first Kodak film I used 4 logos ago, the first Mastercard I had 4 logos ago. I'm jolly glad I'm not concerned about logo chnages.

I expected nothing less. Was interested in what their response would be is all.

The brand SKODA is not up there with the best so they want to remove the word from the badge. Back in the 1950's /60's the brand SKODA stank to high heaven and in the eyes of a lot of older people still does. In fact it was the first thing I said to the salesman when I first started looking to buy, but then I had read a lot and was curious. Skoda want to change that image as KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN changed their image due to the bad connotations of the word FRIED, they simply renamed it KFC. VW want to take the name off the car so people will ask what it is not be able to read it and condemn from a distance, simple really.
