  • Don't lose your keys!!!

Just a tip - don't lose your keys. I still can't work out where mine went a couple of months ago, between arriving home one night and going to leave the house the next morning.

Anyway - $455 for the key, $155 service fee to link key and car......

I was told that too when we bought our's. Have you lost both sets?

No, only one - but life's a hassle when we've got to remember to swap keys....

Life changed for the worse when both the immobilser chip and the remote became one in the flick keys. Our Mazda 323 had them seperate still but you obviously had both on the keyring, but once they moved to a single flick key like with our 6, the cost doubled if you lost it.

Still not as bad as that price though, I think they are more like $200. I find flick keys have a habit of unlocking and gouging me in my pockets a lot.

Gee skoda is slow. Land Rover were charging that for imobiliser keys ten years ago and they were quoting a three month wait to get one from England.

I wonder if you can cover this with insurance?

Conveniently the cost will be just below most people excess.
I guess you could try to claim on a household goods policy but I suspect you'd get nowhere.

It's just a wrought really. You can buy a complete new working PC with screen and operating system for what they are trying to say the cost of the electronic key is. It's just like the DVD map upgrades for in dash sat nav. How come I can buy 12 months worth of updates (4 releases) from TomTom for $49 and the car manufacturers want hundreds of dollars for a single update that uses the same base map info?

Yeah it is in a way, you are a captive audience so they can charge what they like.

With the insurance, I was thinking something like the "1 free windscreen" option. I've never had a broken windscreen ever, I'm more likely to lose my keys and they would cost similar to replace.

My insurance supposedly covers keys without affecting excess - need to remember to check it out tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me.

Usually contents insurance doesn't have a "no claim bonus" that you can loose, bonus if you can get it covered though that

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
