A good description Bobski - not a bad noise but not a pleasant noise either. I wondered if the turbo spooling up had something to do with the noise?

Would prefer if the exhaust was a bit gruntier.

Yeh, I've heard something similar on mine, and I was 99% sure it was just an exhaust noise/rattle.

Due to this thread i have had a close listen on mine and i do hear a similar noise but it has not given me any concern as i agree with Gnat and Bobski that it is probably generated from the Exhaust or Turbo coming in. As it appears to be so common on all our new vehicles i doubt that it is a mechanical issue as my engine is running sweet and very smooth so i'm not worrying.

Yes it seems to be common amongst the TSI engines. I'm booked in on Monday morning to get my door seal replaced so I'll pop the question anyway & see what they say.

After getting my car repaired this morning & asking about the engine rattling noise, apparently there is 'nothing to worry about' said the service guy - that's the best explanation I could get out of him. No reason, just that's it.
As for my different coloured LED driving lights, he said the green & slightly dimmer light is the correct colour & has ordered a replacement for the drivers side... Meaning he is replacing the bright blue/white side with a new light - which is apparently is supposed to be green??? I hope he knows what he is doing (but I doubt it)...
No offense to the Skoda brand itself (I know from experience in Europe & especially Germany (where I used to live) their service is hightly recommended) but here in Australia - well at my dealer in particular, their 'service' seems to be a bit of a joke - as too are the Skoda representatives who appear to have very little product knowledge. And before all of the online experts climb up on their soap boxes & tell me I'm an idiot for saying so, this is not my first new car, nor have I been locked in my padded cell my whole life & haven't needed to deal with other brand's service departments.
As you can probably tell, I enjoyed my 3 hour wait for them to put a new rubber seal on my door this morning.

The service is highly rated in the uk as well. There seems to be a lot of stumbling around in the dark in oz. They seem to think Skoda cz is a mystery themselves here.

Yeah it's great being told that and then hopping on the M2 Motorway back to work listening to the noise all the way here... I'm already thinking of upgrading to a 1956 VW Beetle - for the quietness...

I'm wondering whether its about time Skoda owners put forward a joint please explain to Skoda with concerns about inconsistent advice, lack of dealer knowledge and a disconnect between what we see here and even in the uk. I can't see the jd power surveys ranking as high here.

Also noticed in the racv mag today the superb article about car of the year, but also that the jetta that won had more kit at the same price as the Skoda equivalent. Something isn't right there.

In regard to the rasping sound, my car has had it since new. I spoke to the dealer and apparently it's a case of "they all do that"

Still, give us just another excuse - "Sorry occifer, I was just trying to get it past 3000rpm - don't like the rasp sound"

it would b nice to know where exactly the source of the rasping noise is from.

atleast then i'll know where to put some chewing gum!! hehehhe.
