I'm not totally sold on this, I've been to a couple of car factories and they dont just run a single "paint colour line" during production, they have multiple colours coming through - even the these Skoda car ads show different colours on the production lines - YouTube - Skoda YouTube - Skoda tv advert

There is another consideration, its my understanding that they build based on colour Batching, so they wait till they have an amount of a colour and run it, as that is the most efficient. Being that Purple Amethyst isn't a common colour it may have also assisted in pushing your build later.
I could be full of it.. but its a comment i had heard from a few dealers.

I'm with you, I've been through the Merc factory in Stuttgart, quite amazing really, red LHD wagon followed by white RHD sedan followed by blue LHD sedan etc. etc. Cars are built to a bill of materials these days, colour or option batching is a thing of the past. I'd be very surprised to hear that any major producer uses such a system.

As I said earlier the story about the colour batching is b/s and should be taken as such. The VW group pride themselves on having the most efficient assembly processes in the industry and colour batching is something that ceased to be efficient in most places in around 1970 so if you are happy to accept that VW are running 40+ year old assembly practices then fine but it's not true.

i don't think the "building by color batches" is bull.
its more efficient for the dancing robots to paint in batches....when u consider nozzle contamination. imagine if u had to "cleanense" each time before the next car is painted?!?! cleaning (sometimes swapped) the nozzle head, flushing the feeder pipes etc etc = time lost.
those who can alternate colors every car, usually have 2, or even 3 sets of dancing robots side by side, with multiple nozzle heads on the ready. so while robo1 is applying the color to car1, the robo2 gets a clean nozzle head & is preloaded with the desired color for the next, car2, in line. when robo1 is finished, car1 moves out, car2 moves in & robo2 starts painting. meanwhile, robo1 is now changing its nozzle head, n preloaded with a different color for car3 waiting next. this process continues over n over.
all this is automated. no humans involved with the cleaning or switching of colors, switching of nozzle heads etc etc.

however, not all factories have the luxury of owning multiple dancing robots in their paintshops. in these cases, they need to plan ahead, n batch them by color.

If you are putting a quantity of vehicles through then your robots have multi-head nozzles, multiple feed pipes, etc. No cleaning / changing, involved. If the feed & nozzles do need cleaning, it's automated. I just can't imagine them letting people into the paint booths to do changes.

never said people did the changes - its all automated, as i had already mentioned.
no one is allowed into the booths while the bots r dancing!!

the bots cannot have multi-head nozzles. well atleast the ones i've heard off. i've personally held a nozzle head (similar to th ones used by ferrari, porshe & audi) myself.
must say, they're quite heavy for their size. apparently its do with achieving the optimal paint coverage & thickness onto the car body.

Mentone motors have been very helpful with all the accessories we asked for. We are just waiting on whether the production date can be changed to early Jan. We are also investigating whether a change of colour will have a faster production date.

its ridiculous eh, to think that the 'color' u have chosen is the cause for such a huge delay!!!!!
out of all the other the possible things, the color was the show stopper!!!

delays in production because of roof lining - due to floods affecting supplier routes - fair enough.
delays in production because of diesel engine production cannot meet demands - fair enough.
delays in production because of the color u picked - WTF?!?!?!

I personally also believe that is BS but it is worthwhile putting it to the test if it means we get a faster production week. Otherwise I don't see anyone else here with such drastically deferred production dates on their orders.
