  • Window tint for Octavia RS

    Hi all,

I have just taken delivery of a new Octavia RS wagon, and I was hoping to get some advice regarding window tint.

Are there any issues with getting metallic tint on an Octavia?

And can anyone recommend any specific brand/type/colour of tint that would suit my car? And where I can get it done?

I have a Race Blue wagon, if that helps. I don’t want to get anything darker than legal, and I don’t like reflective tint.

I got quoted $595 for Bolle tint at Tint a Car, and $330 for 3M tint at another place. I don’t quite understand why there is such a big difference in the prices of these two. The 3M tint has a lifetime warranty too.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers.

I've used the sungard gent in Penrith 3 times and he has been great. He advised non-metallic as there is an antenna embedded in the rear right side glass. I got darkest legal "carbon" (see their website). Same colour car as yours...

And how mine looks.... I think there's already a slight tint on the back windows so they turned out darker.

Oh - I should add it cost me about $300.

I got the metallic tint and it has given me no problems as the radio aerial is outside on the roof, in fact I think it works really well reflecting the heat as I found on my trip to Qld a few months ago. It also doesn't seem to affect my satnav which has its responder inside the car under the dash.

I posted some pics on an similar topic previously, it is reflective looking but not a lot and depends on the lighting. Just try several places for the best quote.

I had tint (Solartint) installed on my Race Blue Wagon by the dealer (Steve Jarvin) for $500 and I am very happy with the result. I ordered darkest legal tint and it comes with 10 year warranty. Also, having it fitted by the dealer gives me piece of mind for warranty purposes if there was any interference with the antenna, which there isn't.

In fact I have a better reception than I have ever had with my previous 3 cars.

There an older thread here with some info and prices. I got quotes of $300-350 from two Solartint places here in Canberra to do my 2008 race blue VRS wagon in their best non-metallic film (Charcool?). I just have to book it in before it starts getting hot!

And I do believe that in addition to the antenna on the roof, there is another antenna (thin orange lines) embedded in the right rear glass. Maybe metallic films don't affect it but I'm just going to play it safe.

Why would there be and extra aerial on the wagons and not the hatches?

Robert from Hunters Hill window tinting (0418 464 185). He's done 2 of my cars now & a few mates. He's mobile & around the $300 mark for whatever tint you care to choose

Thanks guys for your feedback. I'll have a look into those options.

Oh MarksVRS, I got my RS from Steve Jarvin as well. They quoted me $595 for window tint, though I didn't try to bargain as I just thought I'd go elsewhere directly and save a couple of hundred bucks.

To late now, but if you push it most dealers will throw in the tint for free. It probably costs them about $220, trade price.

I was originally quoted $450ish for the Multivan in the darkest legal from a few different installers, in the end I got it done through a mate for sub $300 as a trade price by Solartint. Clearly there is a lot of room to move on the pricing, especially if you are flexible and when and where the work is done.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I've got "Black pearl" on my Commodore wagon. Cost about $350 4 years ago. Still looking good apart from a huge scratch from a pram in the back!

I think the price and warranty are linked. As i say, mine is guaranteed for 10 years although there were 2 or 5 year options which the dealer could have easily opted for as I did not stipulate...

I had my tinting done by the dealer, who uses 3M film. If you are getting the windows tinted, have a 'glare strip' across the top of the windscreen, as it really helps with the heat, especially in summer. Don't use a metallic film on the windscreen, as it will block any e-tag or toll road transponders.

Wouldn't this affect the auto headlights and rain sensors?
