Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Still makes me smile!

I had a bulk pack of Dynamat ( in my opinion some of the best stuff around for sound deadening) left over from when I was sound deadening my Merc Vito van. So I've used some of it to do the spare wheel area in the back of the RS wagon, and i plan on doing all the doors, the remainder of the rear area and possibly a little of the roof ( for when i fit roof racks to hopefully keep some of the wind noise out ). This should make the thing fairly damn quiet and give the stereo even more bass.
I will take some pics of the rear dynamat fit this week and post em up.

At the 15,000 km service the service dept said no to rotating the tyres because of feathering on the rears, they said I'd complain about noise if they put them on the front. I don't think I've ever had a car with so much tyre/road noise, especially with such low km and moderate wear on the tyres.
If they aren't directional tyres then do a cross rotation - reverse the rotation of the feathered tyres. Put the most feathered units on the drive axle. The noise will reduce as the high points wear off.

What tyre pressures are you running?

IMO, for good, uniform tyre life on a torquey FWD with premium tyres, the tyres should be X-rotated every 5,000-10,000km. 15,000km is stretching it a bit.

Ok, nearly one year on from this post, I thought I would update it.

My vRS now has 37000km on the clock and we went for another trip up to Mt Tamborine on the weekend. This car is every bit as good......if not better than the day I bought it. I really let it rip on some of the windy mountain roads and just kept smiling.

The fuel economy has gotten better since the day I bought it as more km's goes down. The tyre noise I was complaining about went away when I rotated the tyres a few months back from front to rear along with alignment and balancing. I am still on the original tyres too.

The only thing that has changed in a year is the amount of other vRS's (and skoda's in general) that I am now seeing on the road. My octy isnt as head turning as it once was because every man and his dog now has one! I don't know how many times I have said 'I told you so' to the people who said I was stupid for buying it in the first place

I just hope the new model is out when this current one turns 3 as I will stay with it!
