  • Looking for Skoda number 2.

Allow me to bore you with a few details.

Bought Octy tsi dsg wagon October 2009 as wife's car to replace X-Trail.

Wife eventually stops saying, "I want my x-trail back" and appreciates Skoda class over Nissan crass.

Then had brain explosion. Bought Mazda BT50 ute march 2010 to replace motorcycle.
    Big mistake.

Wife says "I told you so"

Crap suspension, brakes, roadholding, etc, etc.
Seriously, these things should come with a wet weather health warning.

I felt safer on my motorcycle.

Now seriously looking to trade ute in favour of Skoda number 2.

Problem is budget is only 22-23k so looking at s/h Octy or Roomster.

I live just south of Sydney. Would appreciate if you know of a s/h Skoda for sale.

I think the biggest mistake was possibly buying one of the oldest and worst utes on the market, a Triton or Navara (Triton definitely for family use, it's backseat is literally worlds apart from a Navara) would've been a better choice sorry. And didn't you test drive it? Sorry, I'm a bit rude today.

There are four in NSW under $25k. But delimit the choice to all of Australia and there are way more. My fave is a white Roomster TDI with 34k kms on it for $17k in QLD. Otherwise there are alot of demo Octavia 1.6s (stay away!!!) and a few high-spec ones with high kms (a yellow RS Liftback with 52k kms is on there for $25k).

Did I mention how much I dislike you Onyertod? Not only do you have the choice to buy a second Skoda, but you live very close to the Royal National Park, which has my second favourite road through it (behind the Putty Rd) which is Sir Bertram Stevens Dr. Geeze Louise!

Ummm.... Jake02, have you driven the National Park lately? The speed limit is now 60, mainly due to Motorbikes crashing every weekend and it is heavily policed. The road is also covered in green moss/mould, which is quite slippery especialy on a bike.

Have you considered an Amarok when they are relased later this year?

Of course I have. With all of those troubles it can be a bugger but that doesn't mean it's impossible to have fun. It's also a fairly nice drive as in the view too . Very enjoyable.

My dealer, Steve Jarvin at Burwood in Sydney has a new White Octavia 1.6 liftback for $21,990 drive away. It only has 50kms on it as well. Reasonably good deal, considering they are like $26k on road. Look in today's Herald Drive section to find out more.

Know you are looking at secondhand, but I went past North Shore Skoda the other day to pick up a plastic boot dish and they mentioned that they were trying to organise a deal with Skoda Australia for the rest of the Roomsters that are left over in Australia. You might be able to get a good deal from them for a new one...

Yeah, apparently Skoda Australia offered it to them to "get them sold" or something like that... Best of luck!

That sounds like a fantastic deal! You could put some accessories (I'm talking bigger wheels - one Roomster I know has the 18-inch RS wheels - and foglamps to make it look good), tint (needs it with such an airy cabin), aftermarket leather (lift the slightly basic ambience), tune the engine (needs it... especially the 1.6FSI) and you'd probably not even hit $25k. And it's a new car! Sounds pretty good to me .

MASSIVE THANKS to you dodgey for the above info.

The above is true and as a result, we will soon have two Skoda's in the shed.
I have traded my ute on a new Roomster.
The few left are all 1.6 petrol. I know I can live with this as we previously had a SEAT Cordoba with the same motor and despite all the negative reports, I can tell you my leadfooted missus flogged the Cordoba up and down Mount Ousley from Helensburgh to Wollongong for three years. So whilst conceding that the 1.6 is no match for the 1.8tsi in our Octy, it will do the job.
From the few Roomsters left I picked one with the six speed tiptronic box. Roof rails are already on it and because Skoda is also unloading Roomster accessories, it will come with a grand's worth although its a lucky dip as to what you get. ( I can live without a bike rack so am praying for say, the aftermarket mags in the accessories catalogue!) I managed to avid the blue upholstery and got grey instead. Paint colour is Black Pearl, which is a bonus. Because the pillars are black, I think the black paint is a big help in disguising the "cut and shut" look of the Roomster.
So although I lost $$$$ on the ute,
I think I gained more with the deal on the Roomster.
Thanks to you dodgey, looks like I got out of the poo!

                          cheers,
                          Max
