There certainly was overseas. I remember when I was living in Switzerland last year that I so an AWD Octavia wagon (definitely not a Scout) when I was out for a walk. non scout 4x4 has been available in UK for a long time in wagon form.
Pre 2005 (ie previous generation) it was available with the VW 1.8t engine and post 2005 initially with 1.9tdi, 2.0fsi and then also the 2.0tdi.
Less ground clearance than scout but more than standard car and none of the scout faux underbody protection. A good deal cheaper than the scout. I reckon it would be a handy tool for round these parts. A couple of links below to autotrader.co.uk to show some examples
