There was also a diesel version. It was the vehicle that first got me interested in a Skoda.

Are you sure? I remember the 4x4 range being the 1.9TDI Ambiente and 2.0TDI Elegance wagons (mostly because we ordered a FWD 2.0TDI Wagon which was taking a while too long so we test drove the whole range, which these were included). Of course, I could be wrong .

There certainly was overseas. I remember when I was living in Switzerland last year that I so an AWD Octavia wagon (definitely not a Scout) when I was out for a walk. It was parked in a driveway so I had plenty of time to check the badging etc.

What we've known all along really....

                [from carsguide.com.au]

“this is, on a metal for money basis, the best value European car Australian money can buy.”

"Skoda’s ride/handling compromise is the best in the VW Group for our battered bitumen, infinitely more so than certain other “prestige” Euros."

                [from caradvice.com.au]

"This car puts the fun back into the daily drive"

“It’s not about any one feature, it’s the whole package, from the quality plastics and materials, the superbly bolstered and comfortable seats (which you would expect to find in a proper Euro sports car), together with a first class ride quality.”

just looked at my brochure. I remember the AWD - it was a $1500-$1900 option IIRC but according to the brochure, 1.9TDI or 2.0TDI only.

Having had a Liberty AWD, a 1.8TSI AWD would have had my ears pricked up straight away. I love my 1.8TSI

Hmm I was thinking later on, maybe it was only the TDis, I think if it had been 1.8 with it, I would have gone that route...better still the RS.

the Scout is available in the UK with the 1.8TSI - maybe that's where the confusion is?

non scout 4x4 has been available in UK for a long time in wagon form.

Pre 2005 (ie previous generation) it was available with the VW 1.8t engine and post 2005 initially with 1.9tdi, 2.0fsi and then also the 2.0tdi.

Less ground clearance than scout but more than standard car and none of the scout faux underbody protection. A good deal cheaper than the scout. I reckon it would be a handy tool for round these parts. A couple of links below to autotrader.co.uk to show some examples
