Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Columbus RNS-510 Install Problems - HELP!

I have finally taken the plunge and bought a Columbus RNS-510 unit - I've got an early '08 Octavia, currently with an audience audio system.

I had it installed and it fitted fine, powered up and was detected by the multifunction display.. however, the steering wheel controls no longer work.

I'm just checking if anyone has tried retrofitting this unit to an '08 Octavia ( Feb 2008 ) and if you had any tips.

I have been doing some research and have found some info that could shed some light on the issue though:

    1. Maybe a firmware issue.. for people who upgraded to version 2660 (which is what mine has) from previous firmware they lost the steering wheel controls.
    2. The cars canbus may be older than the Columbus supports.
    3. There is a known power drain, and other issues, with MY07 and older cars (mine is Feb 2008, so hopefully MY07 MEANS ONLY MY07)

    Anyway advice would be great.

Yeah it worked... also the navigation menu was listed in the multifunction display with the compass etc, but it did seem to freeze up though and we could not get out of the nav menu on the MFD... other than that the actual columbus unit worked fine.
