And each insurance company calculates its suburb rating individually based upon its history of theft and damage etc etc.

I knew that there was a good reason for living in a really quiet place slightly off the beaten track where I doubt that there has even been a car theft reported.

Unfortunatly, I live in a beach side suburb right next door to a suburb full of housing commision units whose residents occupation seems to be theft and wilfull destruction.

Generally suburbs with the criminal element tend to do car theft etc, outside of their own suburb...so being next door is perfect. It's the old don't crap in your own backyard principle.

Looking to revitalise this thread. OK, so I bit the bullet and now have a Scout Getting a bunch of online quotes and making a spread sheet (not reading PDSs yet).

One quick question is about windscreens. In the past with bog standard older Japanese cars I've never bothered with insurance, just run the risk and underwritten myself. I assume that a Skoda windscreen is hard to get and $$$? I looks like about $50-60/year more. Any experiences out there?

If you have auto wipers the sceen will no doubt be in the $600 range just like all other similarly equipped screens and I bet any decent windcreen place could get one overnight.
At $600 that's 10 years of insurance to cover the cost of one screen.
