Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
From this discussion its obvious you can't rely on Service managers to give you objective information about what needs to be done on your vehicle. That is quite disturbing.
Not to be too subtle about things I'm glad that we have removed the rose tinted glasses from at least one person.
I read somewhere that dealership service managers joined real estate agents, car salesman and lawyers on most untrusted list
Im getting very close to requiring my first service - so do i take it to the dealers or take it somewhere else. Dont want to void my warranty, dont want to be sold something I dont want, dont really want to worry about it.
Just take it to the dealer, I've never had something in a standard service I didn't need or want, they just do what Skoda makes mandatory. I've got a copy of the Skoda checklist of what they have to check off. Apparently Audi isn't even as strict, as they don't make them do that.
When Mazda started selling tyres a few years ago, I had just replaced the front set with brand news, and the rears had a bit still in them. I got a call from the Mazda dealer saying they could not let me legally drive the car out with the rear tyres as they were and needed them to be replaced, and they just happened to have the tyres in stock. These tyres were still legal all around and the treadwear indicators were all below the rest of the tyre. I have never been fed so much BS in my life. The other tyres were closer to replacing at the previous service, but nothing was mentioned then as they weren't selling them at the time.
Yeah, thanks. I was under some bizarre delusion that when they told me I needed new brake pads I actually needed new brake pads.
Brakes are a major point of difference between Franchise and non Franchise dealers. Generally a Franchise dealer will tell you you need brake pads (and often discs as well) because the factory manual says that at X km the brakes should be changed. A non Franchise dealer will look at the brake pads and say something like "they are getting a bit low I think they will last till the next service do you want to change them if not you will need to just keep an eye on them"?
Yesterday I was quoted $270 from Steve Jarvin Skoda, or $230 from Ultra Tune Burwood for the 15k service. Ultra Tune highlighted the inflated price due to special oil specs for the car. I have 2 bottles of Penrite full synthetic diesel (compliant) oil in the garage so I might ask Steve Jarvin if they can deduct the price of oil to get it done there cheaper (and get my towbar programming fixed at the same time...)
What was wrong with your programming?? I have to take my vRS back to them next week to get the Towbar control unit replaced - was faulty from new.
Also the very front of the roof lining near the windscreen isn't secured correctly, and Joe at Steve Jarvin said they were looking to order a complete new lining, but Skoda Aust asked them to try to refit - we'll see what happens there.
Also I have a Diesel version, I'm curious to know the guys who have diesels if they know if their Intakes were cleaned of the oil residue from the re-circ/enviro system. There is numerous posts about this in the diesel section of this forum. I would expect the Diesel service costs more because of this. Also the VW507 spec oil is what's needed for the deisels - most 5ltr bottles cost around $75, so if they are stinging you $125 for oil tell em to wake up to themselves.
I'll be calling the guys from Steve Jarvin this week to get a quote on the 15K service and chatting about what's involved...........

I've taken mine to the dealers for all 3 services. They have always done it by the book, except the last the replaced an airfilter 15,000km too early. That suited me fine as it was only $32 & I don't think an airfilter should be in for 60,000km anyway.
By all accounts, it appears VW have revised the service schedules for Australia as the 60,000km service looks like it will be a shocker - spark plugs (WTF? - aren't they 100,000km platinums?) and a few other things I wasn't expecting. Might do some myself....
It's the extras & repairs that you need to think about. The fuel & oil additives, the injector cleaners, brake pads & rotors, tyres, wiper blades, etc.
carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
So I'm wondering with what looks like extra service costs for the diesels does it negate the cost saving in fuel?
Re: commission based service - no matter how you dress it up, it's crooked and unethical.
Really? Thats an interesting perspective on things.
I suppose I forget not everyone is as mechanically minded or aware of whats going on in there very own car as I (and most people I know)
Is the person at Hardly Normals trying to up-sell you the extended warranty/support package for your new Laptop engaging in 'crooked' and 'un-ethical' activity?
Or the guy at the T-Shop suggesting you get an Iphone rather than the Nokia 6130 actually only need?

I'd rather be crooked & unethical & pay the bills than stand on the high moral ground, get benefits & rack up debt. That was the choice I had & when further choices presented themselves I moved on.
You do realise that most jobs involving selling a product have some type of "commission" attached, whether that be directly linked to sales, profit share, equity in the company or other forms of reward..... Even Travel Agents get commission.

Said in the very best of the traditions of Marxist-Leninist philosphy. It's good to see that there are a few of you still out there.
BTW: Do you accept wages for your work or do you donate all income to the state and allow the state to fully cater for your needs and wants?

Sooo, back to the topic at hand!!!
When I questioned the price of the tow pack ($1800) when ordering my car, they said it was due to the computer re-programming and wiring, to prevent the reverse sensor false-reading when the trailer is hitched. I have had it back twice for them to fix it, as I tend to use the trailer every month or so and it still constantly beeps when the trailer is hitched.
Regarding the price of the 15000km service, Steve Jarvin quote $269 although agreed to $200 if I supply my own oil. When I indicated they were quoting more then Ultra-Tune for the same book service, he said that only an authorised Skoda Dealer can provide a printed status report directly from my car's computer. I have it booked in for this Thursday morning.
I am keen to see what my car has to say!!!
Maybe the forum administrators should approach these dealers to see if members can receive a 10% discount, as we will all be comparing prices anyway??
P.S. Has anyone received an SMS reminder for the first service? It includes a 10% discount if you mention the SMS when booking it in.
