Hi Guys, we plan to tint our wagon when it arrives.
Just Rang Rob @ cartint and he has never done a "Octavia or whatever its called" and doesn't see a demand in the future and "would be better off going through the dealer" i was told.
Anyway just for information Tezzwokka where did you get the Sonic tint done and was it more $$ than normal?
K1W1 what did the sedan cost?

That Rob guy seems to hate VAG products - never heard of a guy that knocks so much work back.

I rang him about my Golf 6 and he knocked me back also.... what the!
Oh well, guess I'll have to go tint a car as well. Is everyone happy with the job they do, and do you know if they go below the window trim? The pushy aftersales girl at vw said it's better to do it through the dealer because 'they' do it properley and go below the door trim. (Yes, I'm sure it's just sales spin to scare me off going independant and ruining her chance of commission)

          nicandlance,
Very wise in not listening to the spin from the sales girl(Why is it always a girl who sells you these products at the dealership?). Same advice would be for their paint protection they try and sell to you! You're better of getting your car properly detailed once a year for a 3-4 yr lease and you'd still be better off!!
I got the R36 done at Tint-A-Car in Nth Melbourne and couldn't be happier. Peter there did a great job. Sorry, i can't tell you if they did below the door trim or not, but i haven't noticed any probs since i got it done in Nov 2008.
Saved myself @ $250 and got a darker than legal tint.
          Good luck with it all.
          Cheers,
          Jayse.

I got mine done at Arma tinting in Frankston but they have lots of outlets. My cost was $345, cheaper than tintacar, and I think about $50 more than a normal one. They did a really nice job of it and I like the look of it against the black as well.

The owner was impressed by my car and loved the seats. I can only but agree....

Hi Tezza not sure on which Tintacar you went to but Nth Melb's where I went.
Graybags I paid $295 to get the wagon done in Midnight express if this is any help to you. They do all the cars for Richmond Skoda and Richmond Audi (there was 3 there on the day I went in). Dropped the car of @ 9:30am and picked it up @ 11:45am.

The person I spoke with while I was waiting mentioned that the new Octavia's are great to work on because all the installer has to take out is the window strip running along the top of the door, no removing panels etc.

When looking at the windows from either inside or out the tint goes below the window trim edge.

i'm a bit confused - according to the octavia rs brochure, it comes with "Tinting" as "Standard". Look on Page 7 - under "Design", "Tinted Windows"

Yet, at the dealer, it was an "Optional extra". at the time i placed the order, i forgot to question this.

and here on the forum, u guys r getting your windows tinted!!

They have got a 'factory' tint as standard but you still notice on a hot day the heat coming through the glass. As an option you can get the rear glass done as a 'privacy' glass but this is only the two rear side windows and wagon windows and rear glass. Most people here have opted to go for aftermarket tinting which is cheaper and does all glass except the front windscreen and looks good to

Yeah, the factory tint is pretty mild. Looks better if you get an aftermarket one.

                        !
They are factory tinted at about 5% (95% light transmission) - it's the number on the glass in the triangle. You can get another 30% IIRC to make it a bit darker. You can even go darker again if you feel comfortable with not complying with rules. 30% is pretty good as an al-rounder though.

Here's mine - front windows are down but you get the idea.
