The sensor that controls the wipers and the window / sunroof close is the one in front of the rear view mirror. It has to be in a place that is swept by the wipers so it can detect whether there is still water on the windscreen.

On my R32 I am pretty sure it was a very faint transparent square that sat about two thirds of the way down the screen in the centre. Could be completely wrong but I thought that was the wiper sensor and that the sensor up by the rear-vision mirror were for the auto-lights.

The sensor behind the rear vision mirror does the lights and rain. They vary quite markedly due to different suppliers being used for them. My lights work very well, and the rain is mostly fine.

I've double checked my setting's. Rain Op is ticked in the MFD and the wiper stalk is set at auto. My wipers will activate if I put a dampened cloth over the sensor but I cannot get the windows to go up
Is this maybe something the dealer has to activate even though I see a setting in the MFD? I noticed in the manual it keeps reffering to the dealer having to activate certain options.

I don't believe that it's a dealer thing. Mine just worked and every Skoda presentation I've been to has always pointed this feature out.
I'll check my MFD settings when I go home.
Why not try using a watering can on the rain sensor rather than just a cloth.

              Edit:

Just a thought. Did you try the windows with the key out of the ignition and the doors locked? This feature is supposed to be for an unattended car so maybe it's only activated when the doors are locked.

No I don't think I tried it with the key out (can't remember) but I'll give it another go tonight. Off the top of my head I don't think I had a tick box for rain OP I think mine says rain closing in the MFD, are these the same thing?

                  Just tried mine at home.

Doors locked drivers window half open. Squeezed a sponge full of water onto the sensor and the window closed.

My car, a 2007 complianced vRS, has the rain sensing wipers. Will it also have the auto window thingy as well?

I am impressed with the auto wipers in the Skoda. Though, once a bird shat on my screen and immediately it was smeared over the whole of the wiped area.

I used to have a Citroen C5 and their alleged auto wipers, which just went ballistic when it rained, wiped at a billion mph without ever stopping after a drive through a bit of mist.

I know that the later (early 09) ones do so yours might.
                      Just try it.
Open the windows a couple of inches or as far as you like.
Lock the doors in the normal way.
Slowly tip half a cup of water onto the sensor on the windscreen.
After about a second the windows will close if they set up to.

Just tried it, windows close but sunroof doesn't. Factory sunroof as well, it closes when lock button is held down. My rain sensor doesn't respond to poured water but prefers it if I emulate rain, i.e. flick wet fingers at it.

Your sunroof should work, I didn't realise the windows do it too, but it was the sunroof that I first saw do it.

Check the settings on the maxidot. I have a vague recollection about reading about a menu item relating to the sunroof closing but I don't have a sunroof to try.

                              Hi K1W1,

Excuse my ignorance, but just what is a "maxidot"? The Multi Function Display?
