  • My rain sensing windows work

Usually during hot weather I leave the car windows open an inch or two when my car is parked at work.
One of the features of the Octavia is the auto close windows in the event of rain but I must say that I was somewhat sceptical about it's usefulness. Well we have just had a brief shower of rain here and looking out the office window I notice that the car windows are now all safely closed up. I'm sold on this feature now.

That's a cool feature! Do you have to do anything to activate this or do you just make sure the wipers are set in the Auto mode?

On the MFD set up - there is an option for "Rain Op" I think it is, you need to have that selected. It's explained in the owners manual anyway, just have a quick read.

The wipers need to be left on Auto.

              Not mine

I don't even think the car has to be locked.

I park my car in the garage with all the windows open & if I clean the windscreen with a damp cloth - they all go up.

This is what the user manual says:

"On vehicles with rain sensor you can switch on or off the function for automatic closing of the windows and the sliding/tilting roof in case of rain and locked vehicle. If it is not raining and the function is set, the windows including the sliding/tilting roof are closed automatically after approx. 12 hours."

Page 30 for those who have one.

Hmm I didn't know they close after 12 hrs, good to know in case spiders decide to climb in during the night.

K1W1 how have you gone with the auto function while driving. I've noticed you need a fair bit of rain hitting the windscreen before the wipers activate?

The wipers are set to auto and I tried playing with the sliding knob on top of the windscreen stalk but that didn't do much?

I haven't tried the window up feature yet, but noticing how much rain was hitting the front windscreen the other night while driving before the wipers started I would of thought the car would get wet inside before the windows went up...

I've noticed that if the windscreen is already wet when starting the car it will take a while for the auto wipers to notice so usually flick them off them on again. I think it uses the water there already as a "blank" and then detects differences after that.

If it rains on a dry windscreen though they move pretty fast, so maybe yours is different, apparently VAG use three versions from different makers.

The auto function works. I guess that's about the best i can say. It appears a bit random at times but it's no different from our previous BMW or current Audi, they are all somewhat flaky I guess.

I don't know whether the windows go up automatically when you are driving. I actually hope not. The feature is designed for an unattended vehicle.

I had a the total opposite with my sensors. Mine were almost too aggresive, wiping like crazy for only a small bit of rain. I then adjusted the settings on top of the wiper stalk all the way to the left and it fixed it

I find the rain sensing wipers all over the shop. Mist from the car in front cleaning their windscreen will trigger my wipers. Rain will have them doing nothing.

To test your auto window closed, just get the dishcloth out of the sink, ring the water out then wipe it across the sensor. windows should close. window closed sensitivity doesn't appear to be related to wiper operation.

Is the sensor your talking about at the rear vision mirror or is it where the wipers are?
