To be honest I have found VW service centres useless, try Richmond, Preston or the new Mentone one....a VW dealer doesn't want your repeat Skoda car sales business so not really in their interest to fix a Skoda prob as they want you to get a VW....

From what I have learnt from this forum expecting a VW or Audi dealer to provide wonderful and knowledgeable Skoda service is like expecting a Ford dealer to do the same with a Mazda or Volvo. Yes they come from the same parent, yes there are common parts and yes the dealer can do basic things like oil changes but that's about where it ends.
As I understand it many VW and Audi service centres do not even have the specialist diagnostic programs for Skodas or access to any factory service bulletins so all they can really do are the old fashioned non electronic related stuff which really limits them to basic work only.

Well, we were sent there by a Skoda dealer...
To be fair, this mob did cover a warranty item on the exterior finish, but that was something they sent away to be done by a contractor and paid for by the company, they simply acted like a booking agency.
However, as this involved their staff pulling apart the dash... they are obviously not interested, which is terrible for us.
I will try other avenues in the mean time, last resort is to sell the car off. Someone else may be happy with it when we are not. I don't even need to point it out as it is bloody obvious. We currently drive with the CD on mid to high volume to drown out the noise.

Geez you give up easily. Go try another dealer suggested. I can compare what you are saying that if you bought an appliance from Retravision and the service was crap then you wouldn't go to any Retravision anywhere. Humans are all different so find a place that has one you like and gets the job done, don't forget to tell Doncaster they suck thats why you are taking business elsewhere.

Give me a break, you're not the one with the rattle snake in the car.
This problem occurred early, around 2k into my early adopter ownership. Back in 2007. It's just getting worst by the day.
I haven't tossed the towel in yet, I did say that selling the car would be the last resort. Obviously, I'm not there yet.
I did let the service Manager know of what I thought of his last comment that he found "my car to be the quietest of the recent lot of cars he has serviced". Until I'd asked him, did you test it with my CD/Radio off? The CD stacker is the only way we can put up with this rattling racket.
Hopefully, this gives a different context to your judgement of giving up easily.

Often you need to take the service manager and the mechanic for a drive to demonstrate the problem. That way there is no confusion about exactly what it is you want fixed, and is much more difficult for them to weasel out with various excuses back at the service counter.
If their response is the classic excuse "They all do that", then ask them to demonstrate your precise problem on another car. And even then, it is possible that the truth is "Then they all need fixing, don't they ? "
Good luck, and please keep us informed of your progress. If you find a helpful dealer they will get a lot more business if you can tell us who the good'uns are (and who to avoid).2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).
