  • Shake, rattle and roll

One of the most consistent complaints by Golf GTI and R32 owners relate to cabin "rattles". I had a few in my GTI early in it's life but now, after 3 years, it's pretty good. I still have issues with a squeaky sunroof.

Anyway, my question to Skoda owners, is, do you have the same problem. Do Skodas have a propensity for rattles.

No. I do get a slight "buzz" from the driver's side dash on really coarse aggregate sometimes, but otherwise nothing. vRS's have a bit more road noise and harshness than some other vehicles (18" wheels with 40 profile tyres) contribute, I'm sure), but are better than Golf Mk V GTIs I've driven .

Although dad has only had his MY09 pre-FL vRS for about 4 months now, he hasn't had any NVH issues whatsoever. When I went for a little drive in it just after he'd bought it, I heard a rattle in the LHR, which I thought for a moment "Oh oh" but simply turned out to be the LHR seat backrest not locked in properly.

My RS wagon/combi/estate is one of the first in the country-it was bought in before official imports started and was used as the press car. First registered in August 2007 and now has almost 40000km on it. There is not a rattle, shake or squeak in it.
As Greg said there is some road noise, mainly on rough aggregrate roads and there's a little booming from the wagon space but both these can be fixed with the volume knob on the radio.

No rattles , had the squeeky door rubbers went away after one summer .

What i do have is muffled popping sound when using just heater mode in winter , seems to come from around the trans shifter where air pushes to the back zone , only lasts about 2 to 3 ks .

Yes the old tyre roar from the back area , but you live with that , worse when seats are down , thats a case of more insulation in rear guard area , might tackle that one weekend , had a bm 735 in the 80,they lined the inner arches with lead sheeting , no wonder they were so heavy .

The Skoda's less amount of rattles etc (I think) can be put down to the MkV Golf being made in South Africa and the Jetta being made in Mexico. A friend of mine has a Mk V 2.0TDI Comfortline and the rain-sensing wipers have gone awol (in that they wipe when it isn't raining and that is something you cannot stop) and there are many rattles (and it was funny how she is now wanting the Octavia for when the Golf's lease runs out). Maybe this is why?

Oh btw, my Octavia RS doesn't have any rattles and the like. It's very very good quality, especially compared to my old Subaru Liberty!

My GTI was made in Germany and had the same kind of rattles. I doubt where it is made changes the number of rattles. It probably is how lucky you are and how much you pay attention to it...

What about when it was new? Mine's got 48,000 up and it's generally rattle free, apart from the sunroof. It was a different story when it was new, although l suspect it wasn't as bad as some others I've been told about.

Our old Mk5 Comfortline 2TDI had about 65k when we traded it in - no rattles or squeeks.

The 2 TDI Elegance wagon we now have has 15k on the clock and is 8 months old. No rattles or squeeks yet

Octavia vRS - 8500km so far.... behaving as others have

Creaky door seals - I can live with this

Tyre roar - 18s 40 profile - the handling makes up for slightly noisy tyres..big time!

...basically faultless in terms of rattles etc.

                              Rattling tin box

unfortunately, the rattle in my Octavia Elegance is taking the gloss off the ownership experience.

Centre console rattles badly with a sharp knocking sound.

Left hand corner where the dash meets the windscreen has a loud sound that is similar to when some one pulls sticky tape off a surface. Can you imagine the annoyance of this sound over every heave and bob of the suspension?

The wife is driven insane on the passenger side.

The service people refuses to do anything about it ... been back 4 times and wasted my time going back and forth for nought.

Other than that, the engine is a gem and the wagon body is damn practical.

But based on this poor quality experience and poor customer service, this would be the first and last purchase involving VAG product.
