Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just finished replacing the 40GB HDD in my Columbus with a 64GB SDD. Now have 40GB of available space for music.
Also replaced the front and rear turn signal globes with amber LED globes for that 'instant-on instant-off' effect rather than the delayed die off effect you get from regular filament globes. No reason, just because I couldLEDs in the number plate now as well as full interior.
I reckon it looks cleaner and more modern, though not as nice as the full LED setups like on the Q7 etc.
Am awaiting delivery of some PW21W LED replacements for the stop lamps, will see if they work OK. This is actually a useful safety feature as the very fast light up time actually gives traffic behind those few extra milliseconds to react in an emergency situation. Doesn't sound like much but could mean the difference between a light tap as opposed to a solid shove if you get rear-ended...2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

That's great mod, I'm sure you meant 30gb hdd. Step by step how to with the pictures taken would be nice, some would like it.
Did it improve start up time of the unit?
...and finally, where did you get you SSD drive from and how much was it, if I could ask? You can PM me, if you like.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

The OEM Hitachi drive in my RNS510 was a 40GB drive. They have been usiung 40GB rather than 30GB for a while now I believe. Still pretty small but the automotive/industrial grade HDDs are always lower capacity than standard laptop 2.5 inch drives.
I used the excellent guide posted by JohnC which has great photos and detailed step by step instructions.
The only thing not in the guide is the removal of the head unit from the dash. Just a matter of prying off the plastic surround (I bought trim removal tools to ensure no chance of damage however a screwdriver will work, just be careful.)
HU is held in the dash with 4x T20 screws.
I used this cheap drive off Ebay:
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
(Kingspec 2.5 inch 64GB PATA SSD)
They are on special at the moment, $100 plus shipping of $16.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

Got these ones for the indicator globes:
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
These are the T10 (small ceiling globes for the interior)
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
I got a set of the superskoda ones for the boot and the front ceiling lights. Boot ones are good but you don't really need to get the supoerskoda ones for the interior globes. Just get generic 42mm festoon 9SMD LEDs and T10s, they don't look much different once in the fitting due to the cover.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

OK so the LED PW21W globes arrived.
Despite being advertised as CANbus error free, they indicate bulb out. Plus they are not bright enough compared to the filament globes. Back to the drawing board, will need to look at either the Chinese OEM taillamp assembiles or aftermarket ones from Milotech or something...Last edited by kamold; 13-09-2011, 10:37 PM.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

i'm looking at getting the suspension lowered (20mm) on mine.
anyone got any recomendations - mainly of where in sydney/canberra that can do it?
at the moment, i'm looking at H&R, Eibach or Weitec springs.
if i don't go more than 20mm, stock shocks should b fine.....so seems to b the general concensus.
trying to find who in oz can supply and/or fit the springs on my car.
i prefer not to ship them in from overseas. i'm looking for a 1 stop shop - where they supply & fit.
i'm not changing the wheels, as previouly planned. i like the look of the neptunes. they suit the color well.
i just need to reduce the gap between rubber & wheel archMY17 Superb 162TSI, Business Grey, Tech+Comfort Pack, APR ECU+TCU Stg 1, SLA, Rieger Splitter + Side Skirts, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Hardrace Swaybar, TPMS

Does anyone know much about Milotec exhausts? I've noticed they do one for the Superb's but can't seem to find any info online about experiences? Also I haven't found any other companies that seem to offer exhaust options for the 2.0tdi engine. here's the link
