  • Skoda Amundsen navigation retrofit

    Hi all,
After driving my car a few times, and being obsessed with Spotify I decided to retrofit the MIB2 unit from the MY16 Yeti to my wife's MK2 RS.

It's the same system as the Discover Media unit in VW cars, just skinned for Skoda with green LEDs and highlights.
This one is DAB digital radio like I've put in my car but there are also analogue radio only versions also.

The units themselves are apparently quite rare compared to VW or Seat given the cars they come from and requires the same modifications to deal with Component Protection.

A wonderful job by a brave man, imagine if the wife did not get the car back in working order!

Lol she didn't because I had to do a bit of modifications to the camera mount as it wasn't working initially due to pressure on the cables. Had to make some changes to it.
Forgot to post video of the rvc actually and I replaced the pdc module so that it shows the ops overlay on the reverse camera screen which is nice.
The new internal Bluetooth module is heaps better which she noticed as it connects instantly and voice quality is much improved.

How involved is reMoving the component protection at the moment? Do you need a loaner car first to activate the unit?

Ideally all features are active in the unit from the wreck and component protection hasn't been tripped.
Then you can install the patch board and you're good to go.
If component protection is triggered the public need to install all the activations again.

I have been looking at adding the Bluetooth module to my MK2 RS but would love to go down this route instead if possible. What’s a patch board worth and how hard are they to fit?

If you can solder and read an eeprom then you can install the patch board. Also need a quadlock adapter, USB cable, maps sdcard and microphone for Bluetooth.

Read an eeprom you say. Hmmmm no, no idea. Can do everything else though. Also I don’t own a VCDS so not sure if I’m likely to need one.
