Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • RS230 / RS245 Exhaust (is it different to a standard RS)?

    Hey Everyone,

I'm after some feedback from anyone who owns an RS230/245 or who has spent some time with one. Is the muffler on this car different to what comes on a standard Octavia RS? If so, is it just the cat back, or is it Turbo back.

My aim is to find one thats taken a hit at a wreckers and pinch the system off it. I'm after a bit more noise, but not a lot.

    Cheers!

    It's the centre res,
Normally it's a huge triangle, 230 is a small cylinder.
If you search the Octavia forum, you'll find a post that I did that links you to the briskoda forum with full photos.

I might have a photo at home also

Interesting... thanks for the photos. I don’t think I could do a full resonator delete, but it would be quite easy to get an exhaust shop to make something up? I’m just being cautious of freeway drone.

Does your current system have a noticeable note and fart on gearchange?

All 230s were Manuals, but the Overseas models got the DSG and yes they fart.
I get the over run farts when I have the throttle % just right on the odd gear change

Great! Would you say it’s about the same volume as a standard GTi/R?

Pass, I've been told a few times my car (Pre Downpipe install which made it louder) has a nice note.

Thanks for that! Assuming yours was the grey wagon at about 3:35 after the 86? Was that pre down pipe?
