Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Skoda Karoq - Coming 2018

It looks like there might just be another addition to the Skoda lineup coming down under next year. The five seat and little brother of the larger seven seat Kodiaq it slips into the Tiguan space.

Is this something people are looking at? Personally, the Kodiaq's seven seats appeal to me, but this is definitely interesting looking.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Definitely looks more like a gen1 Tiguan equivalent in terms of size/wheelbase.

They want to take the person responsible for new headlight design out side and flog them with a dead fish. Whats with all new model front ends having to be so "Fuggly" ?

I like the look better than new Tiguan and can see myself replacing our 2010 Tig with the 140TDI if it come to AU.

That would more likely be a Kodiaq - the Karoq doesn't reach Oz until mid next year.

Skoda Karoq to start at $30,000 - motoring.com.au

Think I’ll be giving this a close look when it lands. I think it will be a good upgrade for my wife’s old Ford Focus. Will look smart in the garage next to my Tiguan.

Several have landed in Australia for design testing. Should be available in May rather than predicted June.

RVCS approvals are listed here: Road Vehicle Descriptor (RVD1) - Skoda Karoq

At this stage it looks like the 3 cylinder 1.0l 85TSI in manual and 1.5l 110TSI in 7 speed DSG are the only engine/transmission options - no diesel on the list.

Well that's one way to manage demand I suppose. Serving up things we don't want and trying to force us to buy a Tig or a Golf wagon might not work as they expect. Some of the Korean diesel cars are extremely good value at the minute.

Yes there’s a predicted shortage for the Karoq so reducing the model options should stem the demand. It also will provide a bigger differentiation to the Kodiaq (which is also in limited supply) as the size/ engines / pricing won’t overlap.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to the entry level Tiguan in spec and price.

However given how Skoda sales are going to be limited by factory output I wouldn’t expect too aggressive pricing. This next period will be about positioning the brand.

But which 7 speed dsg ? We are waiting for them to arrive to replace the Yeti. But wont touch a DQ200.

Almost certain it'll be the low torque box. If you're really lucky it'll be the new one that is in the Mk7.5 R and Arteon but I think that may be wishful thinking rather than reality. Hope to be proven wrong.
