  • New Fabia RS Hatch picked up today :)

    Greetings...

So today was the day... I finally became a Skoda owner. Now we have two VW family cars with my girls 2.0 diesel Golf.

I collected late this afternoon, and it was a little wet on the way home. Took a quick photo (see link below) once it was safely tucked away in the garage. Will take some better shots when the weather is being a little more friendly.

Look forward to sharing my impressions soon.

    Cheers!

New Fabia RS Hatch picked up today

    Congrats on the new wheels!!

Ive driven a few of these Fabia vRS's and they are a swift and fun car (my brother works at a Skoda dealer hence why ive driven several). Ive never seen a silver one so good on you for picking a slightly different colour (most seem to be white, red, blue or that green). Looks great in silver with the black roof.

Dont baby it during the run in process (most important is the first 200km or so). Make sure you give it a good rev and load the engine up as much as you can.

Awesome. Let it stretch its legs. Oh and Windows down below 80 so you can enjoy the induction and supercharger orchestra.

Keep some good oil in the boot for top ups. Check the the pressures. My dealer was running them at 28 instead of 36/35.

There is an updated manual online or get the Skoda Manual App for iOS and Android

No babying, but read the manual about breaking it in. Usually says don't rev above X RPM until 1500km and then rev it further and further out for the next 500kms. Also the usual stuff, no towing, no constant speeds, no cruise control...

Just rev it isn't necessarily the best advice.

Im not talking about redlining it etc, personally i didnt exceed about 5,000rpm for the initial 1,000km - but i did give it plenty of full throttle runs up to those revs, as well as loading the engine up as much as possible (eg 3rd or 4th gear, low revs/road speed and floor it up a hill to load up the engine).

These 1.4 twincharged engines have a huge tendency to drink oil, so running them in via this kind of method will give you the best chance at avoiding the oil consumption issues.

                Here's some better pics:

Fabia RS - a set on Flickr

So far I'm loving it... gave it a short run on some b-roads today and I can see this DSG is really going to grow on me. Around town I find myself using the shifter rather than the paddles, as I find them awkward to use when negotiating 90 degree turns. The paddles are fun on a flowing piece of tarmac though

I got paddle extensions in carbon fibre for mine and now I can hold my hands at ten to two and still paddle shift while cornering.

Owning a Fabia RS is so much fun.

Brash... I noticed on your signature the 'quoted' and dyno KW's. Is this meant to mean the car is more powerful than official specs? Or you've had an ECU tune done? Or an inaccurate dyno was used? I'm assuming this was not ATW?

Skoda (vag?) Is, for reasons unknown, under quoting the power figures. Testing facilities are getting figures from 137 to 149 kw on different cars. Haven't actually chipped mine yet but been looking hard. Stage 1 final bhp has been quoted between 214 and 252 depending on the individual car. I didn't consider an inaccurate dyno though. But the underquoted power figures thing is widely documented in the auto press.

There's more to it than that but that's as far as I have gone and I'm a nurse not a mechanic.
