Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Three in one carpark!!

Bunnings carpark Hawthorn, parked next to a black pre-facelift wagon in my facelift wagon and across the way in the next row was a silver pre-facelift wagon.

They were both still there when i came out about 25 minutes later so the owners may even both work there???

Bit of a spin out though, don't normally see that many Skoda's in one spot unless i am at work

Really, i must drive blind half the time because a part from mine i don't normally see any in the area. I live on Burwood Road so i am constantly up and down Glenferrie, my wife also worls in Richmond and we tend to see heaps more there, probably due to the proximity to Richmond Skoda. In fact i saw a pre-facelift black wagon on bridge road coming to work this morning.

Just weird not seeing more in Hawthorn, Richmond is only a few minutes away.

        • Red Pre-FL Octavia TDI Wagon parked just down from my office car park, in Tech Park (near Curtin Uni). Immaculate condition...the red is quite stunning (having come from a red car myself I am probably a little biased, but it really does make it stand out). Almost enough to make me regret ordering yellow. Almost...

          • I just got back from a holiday/visiting the relos in Coffs Harbour for 9 days and there were Skodas galore.

            - I parked next to a white Roomster TDI at Aldi
            - Saw a pre-FL silver Octavia 2.0TDI Wagon on my arvo jog
            - Saw three Octavia Europcar hire-cars (as well as a Jetta) - weird considering the Europcar website says you can only hire them in Tassie...
            - A yellow FL RS Wagon parked next to me in Bellingen

Made my boring holiday a little more fun

But where are some Superbs!? I've only seen ONE on the road...ever!

            • Pre FL wagon (Scout?) in Emerald about 8.15 this morning, empty bicycle rack on and suitably dirty for the area. I didn't get a real good look.

                  • This is more about NOT SPOTTED.

I have been in Switzerland for 4 months and am amazed at the number of Skodas I don't see. There are a few pre-FL Octavias around - including a couple of police cars - but I could count the number of FL Octavias on one hand. I think I have seen only two RS models.

But everyday I see double-digit numbers of Mk 6 Golfs and new Audis, in fact more of each in a single day than the total number of Skodas spotted in my entire time.

Not sure what the brand is doing here...

PS While I'm here, do you think I could duck over to the factory and see my car being built? Nice idea, if only they would allow it...

                      It's getting like that here.
Yesterday I was stopped at the lights and in the right lane there were three Golfs (2 x Mk5 and 1 x Mk6). In my lane there was a Corolla followed by an EOS followed by me in the Skoda.
I guess the VW group plan to be the dominant world vehicle manufacturer by 2011 is coming into play.

                      • I was just expecting that being closer to the source I would see lots and lots of new Skodas to whet my appetite even more.

Mind you, there is a nice, black Audi R8 that accelerates past my bus stop every morning. That really whets my appetite!

I am not entirely surprised. Skoda sales 4-5 years ago were about half what they are now. They are only approaching Audi with number of cars produced in last year or so. Only fraction of cars you see are 1-2 years old. Anyway, I think their sales figure were still quite healthy as they recorded increase in sales for 2009 while for example Audi or Seat went down. Downside of it though was that it was purely due to increased sales in China. I think Germany is Skoda's biggest market in Europe but I havent seen many Skodas there when I was there last year. Yet they sold almost 200 000 cars there in 2009 .

                          • Today during a trip to the airport I saw an pre-FL RS just like mine, except in blue and, finally, a Black Superb Ambition!

Also, everyone, the Wheels Car Of The Year is being announced tonight (I think on A Current Affair at 6:30pm) so best wishes for the Superb! I think it might be the Golf though...they're both very good
