Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi guys,

All of a sudden my heater fan only works on setting two. Anyone have any idea on what the problem could be?

Fan speed resistor usually only lets it work on high.

I'd be checking the switch contacts. They might neeed cleaning and adjusting.

How do I get at them? Do I have to remove the whole unit?

no, under the glovebox, you should be able to remove the panel that holds the resistor pack from the base of the fan housing.

So its on the passenger side like the polo? Have to pull up all that foam like stuff and carpet under dash?

Think it is the switch now, I took the cover off and now it doesnt run at all.

How do I check if its working? I cant figure out the crazy setup

Also does it just pull out?

                      You're in the right spot.

Push on the copper contact switch and see if you can get all speeds working.

If you pull the knob off, you can see all the inner workings.

I tested it all with the multimeter and it was fine. So I reached around the back of the dash and pushed on the plug going into the switch and its all good! So happy!

                        Thanks for your help man!
