Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hey guys, I just joind the forums today. I own a 1996 Seat Ibiza GTI 2.0L 8V. It is the exact one off "The price is right" and it has been 'handed down' to me.
I get my P's in less than 3 months and wanted to ask a few questions

    1. Can I use synthetic oil? It has had mineral in it, and it has just clicked over 170k. (I was told not at VolksWerke(Greensborough, Vic)

    2. It is an 8V engine, can you swap the head over to a 16V without stressing the engine or losing reliability? Anyone know the cost?

    3. Do worn engine treatments, injector cleaners etc work? Its run 95 octane.

p.s anyone got a manual for it?

    Thanks guys.

Welcome... you have come to the right place.
    We always like pics..
I occasionally use injector cleaners, they make the car more responsive for 1 trip and goes back normal again??
Anyways, True help is coming shortly.

You cant put a 16v head on it. Nor should you, the 8v is more fun to drive

I wouldn`t use synthetic oil, especially with those ks. Just use castrol or similar

Great first car, enjoty it. If you need any help, just ask.
