Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah I think they took that one down too...I just emailed them about getting a partial refund so might have prompted them to stop selling it...

yeah hopefully the gauge install is easy, did some reading and looks ok, I'm just not confident cutting hoses and stuff...don't wanna screw up haha.

Haven't even got the car back yet so waiting on that to see what bits I can use, Cheers for the stuff good to see you again. Hopefully next time I can come see your S3 too.

        Success!

Got the s3 back, coil overs on, down pipe on all running smooth

car feels really good still need to get an alignment to get it going in a straight line and might wind the height down a little too (not sure haven't taken it into a car park yet, hoping the exhaust doesn't hang too low)

Also I strangely don't have a check engine light yet???

only concern is a slight rubbing noise when I turn hard left at anything over 40kph seems to be coming from the tunnel could be dp on driveshaft. Would it be silly to take a mallet to it and knock some clearance into the exhaust?

I'll post some photos soon of all the bits and bobs.

Biggest improvement out of the lot was the dog bone mount...its unbelievable how good it is, no rocking during gear changes and no vibrations.

Now to Gav to get the tune, hopefully before happy laps but the bank will decide that one unfortunately.

CEL won't come on straight away, inside of 100km is normal though.

60kms down still son cel. Although the downpipe is hitting the tunnel pretty bad. Only when backing off / reversing though and when turning.

Gonna ask jimmy tomorrow if it's worth more work on it or maybe just ditch it and buy a better one.

Or get an exhaust shop to do some fab work on it and make it fit.

                    Big week.

Downpipe was remoulded and fits. No rattle or hitting.

                    Wheel alignment done...finally

And massive thanks to Gav for seeing me two school nights in a row.

Custom code stage 2 tune is done and it feels like a new car. ( I'll let him tell you figures)

Not had it in the daylight for a while so photos are still to come.

Holding out for lakeside this weekend.

Well the logs say its making 262hp at the crank. 210g/s Full boost 1.5BAR by 3000. It ran really well, EGTs well under 900. It's not all about the peak numbers though.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I am sure you'll get to appreciate the mid range as time moves on. That's where I play with mine, 4th and 5th gear.

Numbers are good but yeah the feel is wayyyyy better.

I'm with you on that Gav, really enjoying overtaking people in 6th without having to shift down, plenty of go.

Quick update, did happy laps this morning and the S3 is running sweet. Nice and smooth. Coil overs are awesome on the track. could be firmer but maybe i'll look into poly and uprated arb and stuff in the future. Happy with where it's at all I need to do now is fix the window clip and get that going up and down again.

Oh yeah and it spits flames...incase anyone was wondering

                            loving this thread!!!

i've just got myself an '02 model, 119k on the clock and it needs some loving too. interior was all banged up so i've stripped it and giving it a good go over + wired up for a new ICE install. Mine's also black and I was also thinking to plastic-dip my AVUS' in black so thanks for the pics! you may have a twin car in Melbourne

So you ended up getting rid of the engine not holding boost on full throttle? Mine feels like it's doing the same. from what i've read you did you changed the TIP and air filter... what else had you done to get yours boosting all the way up the range?

You should log your S3 to see what boost is being made. I always found a std S3 very dull to drive. Very lacking in power.

Hey Cheers, send some photos my way when you get a chance, what are you going to do with the interior just clean it up and put it back or update it? if you do update get rid of the heavy front seats and replace them with recaro sportster CS's

As for the boosting, its all to do with leaks and blockages in the vacuum system. tip/pcv are the main culprits! either upgrade them to silicon or look into the catch can PCV delete.
Other things to look out for etg sensor and coolant temp sensors they can mess with the computer and put it into limp mode/trim fuel ergo cutting boost.
But as gav said get it logged for errors is a good start, then if anyone near you does smoke testing its a good idea too (smoke the vacuum system to find any leaks)

Other than that yeah the stock map is poo so get it re-mapped, mine is stage 2 but stage 1 should brighten it up a bit and not break the budget...plus I think you can just send your ecu to Gav to get it done as there isn't any tweeking needed (correct me if I'm wrong)
