Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Just to steel my thread back.

I have discovered that the ECU is more programmable than I first thought, BUT to program it, it is not available to the average joe.

I spoke to autronic, they were very helpful and I would recommend them for anyone to talk to them. They told me that they currently did not have the facilities to support wire accelerator pedals (though one is under development).

The motec option to run all the sensors is probable a M800 plus the accel module, plus the wiring harness plus possible some others. This is looks to be around $4000. If you do not do the wiring yourself add another $2000 plus. Having got the system connected, you are looking at 5 to 6 hours on dyno for tuning for a typical setup. This is the best system I have found for the ultimate setup.

    Hope me investigations help.

I would like to thank the people on this forum and others for the advice and support as the advice and support has been fantastic.

    Regards
    Glenn.

A Motec 400 might be able to be used, but may not have enough inputs or outputs. Expansion units are available to upgrade. I did not complete the analysis to determine which model Motec would be required. If you want the prices for Motec look here: http://www.cityperformancecentre.com..._pricelist.pdf

I have decided to get the existing factory ECU modified to have the immobilizer of other surplus systems removed as this simplifies rego. If I was to use the Motiec it would have to be sealed for the car to be registered, which defeats the point of having the Motec.

The car with a standard (chipped) ecu and K03 turbo will have close to 400 hp per ton. This should be enough for starters.

      Regards
      Glenn

Wouldnt of been hard to build a modded box for the ecu! I understand Motec$$ and unless ur buildin a full blown racecar yes ...its the way to go...I know ive built a sportsedan racer and ive worked on Supertourers 2L...
Really i think u have made the right choice and for ur pocket

I also got it running enough to drive it myself and I've never done anything like this before so yes, it's got very user friendly interface.

Mine cost about $2500 with a 5 bar MAP sensor and a few other sensors back in about August. Full tune including cold start is about $800 -$1100 depending on where you go.

From memory Autronic won't and can't give you any instructions or anything which means it's basically impossible to install it yourself.

Link is pretty much the same as vi-pec (may be a few firmware upgrades behind) but it doesn't have the after sales support that vi-pec has. But yes they are very, very similar I found all this out after I bought my vi-pec.

I'll let you know how the final tune goes when I don't have wrist pins sliding out making grooves up my bores
