A4 Quattro help please - 2018 onwards

Hi team,

Potential first time purchaser of an Audi (moving from a Golf 7 GTI) so I am trying to decipher all the different models and model years in Australia.

Ideally I would be purchasing a 45 TFSI Quattro, which is believe was MY19 onwards.

However, you can also purchase an early 2018 quattro but the "badging' is different, i.e. you could purchase a 2018 Audi A4 S line Auto quattro MY18.

My question is therefore did the car substantially change between A4 S Line Quattro / Black edition vs 45 TFSI, or was it really a rebadging exercise?

(early 2018 examples seem to be about $5k cheaper)

Apart from being a model year change, there was not much difference between the 2018 and 2019. In 2018 Audi changed to a new naming structure across its range, in which model designations are linked to power output rather than engine capacity in models under the S and RS range.
In Australia we started seeing MY 2019 vehicles arriving with badging like 35, 40, and 45 TFSI on the A4.

There may be additional standard features on the 2019 verses the 2018 but that would be depending on what is fitted to each vehicle available for sale. There were no improvements or facelift to the 2019, this happened in 2020.

The 2018 S Line was the 2.0 TFSI with quattro and positioned under the S4 so it came optioned better than the front wheel drive models.
The Black edition was just a limited version that was fully option model used as a marketing gimmick.
The 45 TFSI was basically the newer model year of the S Line.

Ok perfect, thanks flipper dog. If I can pick up a well priced MY18 that might be the best bet, as long as AWD.

I believe the black edition may have been lowered so more sporty but potentially uncomfortable.

I like the look of the cars with Audi Plus (2yr Warranty & service plan) but maybe you could do without an rely on major/minor failures as dictated by the ACCC

Just be aware that those service plans provided by Audi Plus may be worth the extra cost. If the car you look at is approaching the 4 year/60,000km service than can be over $1000 if you are paying a dealer.
