  • AUDI A3 _BMN engine (2007) - HELP

    Hi guys,
I need help with my A3 Diesel Audi BNM engine. It has number of issues it seems but not logging all of them in the scan.
    1. Glow plugs heater Spiral icon flashing constantly.
    2. Engine mil light on constantly ( goes of when engine drives)
    3. ESP Fault lights flashing on dash constantly
4.DPF filter icon flashing constantly (goes off when driving)

I have also included scans before few days old. Underneath.

The car with full charged battery highest CC's wont start until I use the diesel start spray. It drives for 15min then starts to shake and eventually turns off. After that at working temperature it wont turn back on.

While cranking at the start (post run) the only error that is different is the Engine Speed error and Transmission - ABS control module... Those errors clear on VCDS.

    Any help is appreciated.

Pretty simple reading from the VCDS logs

      Your DPF is full.

Go and get a professional opinion but to me, it’s obvious.

You may get away with a chemical clean out, you may need a new core.

You can have them cut out, and Karcher the crap out of the filter core, which has had some results.

Otherwise you can delete it, but costs a bit more and isn’t considered “Kosher” by many

Yeah, looks like the DPF is blocked.

Steering angle sensor fault is probably due to low battery voltage, and needs a basic re-learn.

Hey guys, thanks for the reply. I have run the car after start with the diesel spray. DPF error goes away immediately as you start driving but the car goes in limp mode in 20min time. This suggest the DPF error is not related to car driving as compression and power is great. I have checked all the DPF related sensors and are all fine. DPF returns after second attempt at turning on the engine but also so does the ESP fault error. They seem to be constant at the ignition stage and can not be cleared. ESP fault is not registered by VCDS anywhere. Could this be electrical issue ..

          Cheers

Umai , steering angle sensor resets it self every time car goes to drive . It only registers on false start if there is an issue.
That part is good. Not a problem.

                How did you inspect it?

Have you gone into the Measurement Channels and found the soot and ash levels?

                    Hey,
I took the entire thing DPF off and piping . No soot what so ever , normal ash level - minimal dirt.
Measuring blocks fluctuate and as I don't relative comparison indicator I can not tell. What is normal for BMN engine.

For the age and mileage the car is dirty but not blocked by any means.

I didn't chemically clean the DPF , noting comes out of it no dust.

I’m impressed you did that. Most forum goers aren’t that savvy.

Greg Roles spent a few hours with a Karcher, pushing the ash back out of the core, then drying it in the oven before putting it back in.

So as I understood it, the ash/soot doesn’t just fall out, it needs to be pushed out

To keep this simple, I know lots of you guys looked at the youtube videos but when I took the DPF off , I could see through the cells.
Anyway , Im gone past the DPF itself. Looking into combination of sensors again.

                          Cheers

Your ECU thinks your DPF is blocked.
