What I noticed as a little disappointing from the Mk V was the lighting, I'd expected the rear LED's to be carried over and maybe fronts included on the Mk VI sadly this didn't appear to be so for the US model, hopefully Australia scores a better spec level and hope the interior quality is still as good too

Mk VI Jetta Released

US motoring writers have been driving the new Jetta in the USA. The reports are average at best. Obvious cost cutting to get the car into the Civic/Corolla price range. Hopefully our model will be higher specced in the engine range than the US version.
2011 Volkswagen Jetta First Drive - Motor Trend
Cost-cutting extends to the interior design, which has good fit-and-finish, but is bereft of the kind of "wow"-factor VW interior that in the past exceeded expectations set by the window sticker. There isn't much new inside, other than a kind of cheap-looking keyless ignition button and a navigation/audio system with fancy graphics and a smallish five-inch screen. Black dash and door panel plastics are uncharacteristically hard, though not as shiny as the cheapest cars in the segment

Poor reviews everywhere for this. Another here:
2011 Volkswagen Jetta SEL First Drive
Like I said earlier in the thread, this is a fail for VW.
It looks HUGELY dull and is built on the cheap inside and underneath. Drum brakes and a live rear axle anyone ? No doubt a three speed auto will be next.
If it is anywhere near Euro or Mazda 6 money it will get slayed. They both kill it for style and quality.
In fact, it looks likely that the current Mazda 3 and Honda Civic sedan would have it covered and the suprisingly good (for a Daewoo) Holden Cruze would take it to a photo finish.118TSI, DSG, Candy White, Sunroof, RCD510, Dynaudio, USB + iPod cable, Reversing Camera, Adaptive Chassis Control, Prem. Bluetooth, Fogs, Tint and Mats.

All of that said, I am sure it will sell in respectable numbers in Australia. Afterall, the Corolla does and it does nothing well.118TSI, DSG, Candy White, Sunroof, RCD510, Dynaudio, USB + iPod cable, Reversing Camera, Adaptive Chassis Control, Prem. Bluetooth, Fogs, Tint and Mats.

I saw that in the review and quickly erased it from memory when it said this is the US spec! Hopefully the Aus spec will be like the Euro spec without these low cost antiquities!Originally posted by pologti18t View PostI couldn't believe it when they said it hada torsion beam rear axle and drums brakes. Once again I assume we will get the multilink rear end and disc brakes.WLF127

All Jettas are to be built in the same factory in the USA aren't they?Originally posted by shakespeare View PostI saw that in the review and quickly erased it from memory when it said this is the US spec! Hopefully the Aus spec will be like the Euro spec without these low cost antiquities!

I for one hope that VW Australia only import the euro-spec models, as they have done with the MKV's.
I must admit, when I first started reading about the US spec MKVI, I was worried what we'd end up with. VW Australia are kidding themselves if they want to import the new MKVI Jetta with Drum brakes, torsion beam suspension, crappy plastics and charge $30k - $40k...if they want to charge $20k maybe, but then a cheapened Jetta would seem out-of-place with their exisiting vehicle range Polo > Golf > Jetta > Passat.
Assuming they want to keep the Jetta competing with the Honda Euro, Mazda 6, Subaru Liberty etc, then we'll receive the Euro-spec vehicle, which if the link below is to be believed, will contain all the decent equipment we expect of a car in this price range.
Fingers crossed for first quarter 2011....

You see - everyone can stop worrying already.Originally posted by VWjettaboy View Post
The "spec level" of the USA cars never worried me. Much of you guys obviously have never looked at even the USA Golf - because they've always had silly interior specs in the past too (like the semi-manual 3 dial aircon and very basic stereo headunits). And the rear brakes and axle thing wasn't even a worry - there was no way VW would be that silly for the Euro (and now that Holden and Ford are no longer doing it here) or Australian markets. What was worrying me was the hard plastics etc.
Well that review puts that concern to rest. They've already got a 2011 Jetta in Euro spec, and all the concerns you guys have stated are already addressed. Sounds great.

If we get the Euro spec the engine, chassis and brakes should be ok in Aust.
So now all VW needs to do is change the whole front and rear ends and the whole interior to make it look remotely interesting.118TSI, DSG, Candy White, Sunroof, RCD510, Dynaudio, USB + iPod cable, Reversing Camera, Adaptive Chassis Control, Prem. Bluetooth, Fogs, Tint and Mats.

I hope that's not the finalised GLI kit... It's practically the same as the regular model Jetta's and boring compared to the aggresive styling of the Mk5 GLI.Originally posted by VWjettaboy View Post2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon
