QLD Newbie introduction

Hi everyone,
My names Rebecca and I have a 2003 Vw V6 4Motion Bora.
For the last year or so I've been having problems with it and it has been recommended that I cut my losses and get rid of it.
So I've instead decided I will try and fix it myself.

I'm looking forward to gathering as much information I can from this forum.

They can be great cars. I've certainly had the usual issues radiator fans (fixed by modifying them), a couple of alternators had to be replaced and some various wiring dramas but overall it has been really reliable. I used to give it heaps in the first 100,000 or so k's but I do have a high level of mechanical sympathy so no silly stuff like side stepping the clutch for high rev take offs and the like. My mates and I used to regularly do the run up to Mount Glorious out the back of Samford.

Mine was a 2001 purchased in 2004 with 60,000k's on the clock and its now done over 400,000k's on the original engine and clutch and the chains haven't been touched yet so I have probably been lucky. My son now has it after my other son used it for a fair while. They both loved it so much one ended up buying a Golf R and the other recently bought a Passat R36.

Happy to offer any assistance. I'm not a mechanic but I have some knowledge of VW's (having always had at least one in the driveway since 1985) and I have a mate who is a very knowledgeable guy. We currently have 9 VAG vehicles in the family.

Yes it's a fabulous car and I enjoy driving it even more.

I recently took it to a Vw dealer for diagnostic testing only for 1 hour due to the cost being pricey for me at the time. They said it's most likely got a blowen head gasket. Not long before that the fans had stopped working or weren't working properly but they said nothing about that.

Thanks for offering advice, I will most definitely need it.

Have you got any suggestions on where I should start off?
