Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC G'day everyone

Hi guys, newbie to this forum but been impressed by all of you here.

I bought a 2003 VW Golf Mk4 1.6L SR with engine code BFQ six weeks ago. It had 148K km on the clock but now 2kkm more. It has experienced many troubles, choking idle related to a faulty camshaft pos sensor(impulse sender in VW term), which was fixed by replacement of a new piece, flashing red engine oil warning lights on with beeps, cleared with engine flushing and removal of precast o2 b1 s1 cable from contacting hot engine, AC off on a long trip causing fuse broken and temperatures gauge dropping to 60 degrees but both fixed after renewing fuse. All done DIY.

Now the car has some other issues, small shaking felt at low speed. Engine light on again with following OBD2 codes:
    1. 17811/P1403 EGR system : regulation divergence.
    2. 16514/P0130 O2 lambda sensor b1s1 malfunction in circuit.
    3. 17700/P1292/F265: MAP Controlled engine cooling thermostat open circuit

I am going to fix all these issues whenever I can. Will clean up the EGR valve and replace O2 sensor soon. However I need some help with the third error code. Does any one know where the thermostat stay on my engine(Engine code BFQ)? I googled a lot but haven't got any luck.

Thank very much in advance for any advice and suggestion.

    Jimmy
