Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hello from Sydney

Hi there, just bought a Octavia wagon to replace my old Liberty. I have always had Jap cars and I have to admit the Skoda feels completely different .... in a good way ofcos. I was thinking of a Passat wagon or a Gold R wagon but the price of the Octavia is too good to say no. Everyone around me are very skeptical about the "cheaper VW" but I think I have made a good choice... so far. I guess time will tell.
Anyway I am from Sydney. Just here to intro myself and I will see you guys around.

    Hello,
I was skeptical of Skoda because they weren't sold in the US. Everyone I've seen, looks and feels like a VW inside and out. I went from a civic to a Jetta in the states. Completely different feel. I've also wrecked both. When I moved back to Sydney, there was no question I was going with a VAG. With Aussie prices, I went for used. Used Skoda maintained their price and I couldn't find an easy sale that had usual VAG problems.

I think Skoda are priced well here.
Audi/VW are like Nike & Adidas with Skoda being Fila - if they were made by the same company and shared design and engineering.

    Tell us how it goes.

My father in law was strongly against buying a Skoda, he said, "How many Skodas do you see on the road? People don't buy them for a reason..." I don't know what the reason is but I am very happy with it so far. Compare to the Liberty wagon I bought 5+ years ago, the Skoda just got so much more to offer and is 20K cheaper. The only downside I found so far is there isn't much aftermarket accessory for the wagon available, couldn't even find weather shield. Maybe someone on this forum can point me to the right direction.

There are plenty of accessories available, unfortunately the most comprehensive collections are in Europe.
Try superskoda and also check out the briskoda forums as there are plenty of Skoda owners in the UK.
