Hi all. New to the VW family. Was looking at a new car. Started looking at Camrys and such when I came across a 2003 VW Passat V6 SE Wagon. Got it for that cheap I decided it was taking the risk with it's high kms (185 000) Been pretty impressed so far.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Welcome to the forum.
Good choice with the wagon, they are a great car.
You need to make sure the 2 water drains under the battery are clear of any debris that blocks them otherwise the battery compartment will flood. This then lets the water seep into the cabin and collects under the drivers seat which is where the ECU for the gearbox sits. If this ever gets water logged you can kiss goodbye to the gearbox electrics and spend a lot of money repairing it.
For added protection I drill a couple of 1cm holes in the floor, one under the drivers feet and another under the rear right passengers feet at the lowest point in the floor. Don't drill through the carpet as this will seal the hole but still let any water out. If you do decide to drill holes make sure you drill where there are no brake or petrol lines or wiring underneath the floor.
Cheers
