Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Need advice on parts numbers

    Hi

I need to replace the driver side wing mirror for my Golf 103 TSI 2013 and was looking to get it from overseas (they are much cheaper). However, the parts number that I got from my VW service center does not match with the ones I am finding online. but when I look at the specifications they look almost same.
just wondering, are the parts number different in different countries??
The one I am looking for is 5G2 857 508 AF (9B9) but the one I am getting is 5K0 857 508 AD(9B9). They look similar, I am not sure if this will work.

Can anyone please share you wisdom!!

    thanks

    Jabed

There are a few MK6 Golfs being wrecked on ebay at the moment. Why don't you buy from one of these cars? VW Golf Wrecking: Car, Truck Parts | eBay

Some Golf's overseas have the following options which may explain the different part numbers:
    - electric folding mirrors
    - puddle lights in the bottom to light up the ground.

Another possible reason for the different part numbers is that VW have a habit of revising parts and changing the part number to identify the old version and the new version. Usually the revised part has just the last letter/number of the part # changed.
