Hey all!
My names Dylan, I'm 23yo and I'm from Brisbane, QLD! After a long time of having a soft spot for Euros I recently made the jump from jap imports and bought myself a 2005 Mk5 2.0 TDI in manual. Instantly fell in love.

After a month of owning the ole girl I ran into a problem with the driver side window working intermittently, had to chat to Adam from VA Garage on the Gold Coast and found out about the common problem with the door loom splitting inside the rubber boot between the door and chassis, so we went ahead and repaired that. Fixed the problem for a few weeks then came back so after a little diagnosing we replaced the door control module and haven't had a problem since.

The car had been nothing but a pleasure since then until last week when I left for work and noticed an odd smell and noise. Opened up the hood to find my alternator pulley had exploded and made a mess of my engine bay, haha. The smell was the rubber belt burning and throwing rubber around.
I lurked the forum and found out this isn't exactly an uncommon issue on the model and went ahead and ordered a new belt and pulley, along with the 33 spline socket tool to get the job done, from online.

Jump forward to yesterday and the parts turned up but I had to go into hospital for some minor surgery which was gonna have me out of action for the week, so I booked a mobile mechanic for today to come swap the old pulley out for me and fit the belt.
New mechanic has advised me that it's more than likely the alternator was damaged internally once the pulley started to go and I'd be up for a new alternator as well as a new idle pulley since there's a fair bit of belt residue on the one in the car. Fun afternoon, right?
Thought it high time I became part of the community here anyway and hopefully you guys can point me in the best direction regarding replacing the pulley or whole alternator. (Provided I don't throw a mantrum and go buy another import instead, haha.)
Cheers guys and look forward to getting to know you all!
