Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW MK6 GTI - looking to get a stage 1 tune!

    Hi all,

I'm Tim, new to the forums. I've had my MK6 DSG GTI for 3 years now and it's just come off the manufacturers warranty - so I'm considering getting a stage 1 tune.

I have no zero experience with car modifications - so I was wondering if anyone could get any advise regarding reliability, what kinda increase I can expect, costs and whereabouts I can get it done in Sydney?

    Thanks!
    Tim

    Welcome Tim!

There's a few options in Sydney in terms of different tuners - suggest checking out the tuner section of the forum. Also I'd suggest working out where you want to go with the car (end point) and then decide which tuner is best to get you there.

Some tuners charge additional fees for each time you get a tune so if you're going to go stage 2 (DP/exhaust) sometimes it's better to go straight there than pay for the car to be tuned twice.

The biggest problem with the GTI going any further than stage 2 is maintaining traction. Even in stock form it's relatively easy to lose traction on the front wheels if you're too heavy on the accelerator.
