Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Howdy All!

    I'm Josh.

Just got a 09 Mk6 VW Golf 118tsi DSG, Fully optioned too Had the original invoice in the glove box.... over 45k new!

Going from a 500Hp FG Falcon to a little Golf is a big change... but the fuel savings are crazy.

Stock currently besides 18% Dark af tint.

Future will be Golf R tail lights and a set of R32 Gloss black rims - that's pretty much it.

    Cheers!

    Firstly welcome to the forum!

I hope you bought a winning lotto ticket the same day you picked up the car. The 118TSI and 6speed DSG have been known to have the odd issue...

I see that you've found the great 118TSI thread in the Mk6 Golf section so at least you're getting informed if you do decide to keep the car.

I have a friend who has one and has never had an issue. Thinks it's the greatest car he's ever had. In reality probably 80-90% of them are OK but you'll never know whether you're one of the lucky ones or not.

Can you find out whether the car you have has had the engine/DSG replaced under warranty recently? If so these should be covered by an additional 2 years warranty on these parts at least.

Howdy! Thanks for the reply Iv had it since 79k kms... One owner before me, 100% perfect service history all at Solitare or Duttons VW centres....

At 40k Kms the books say it had the DSG recall done? Mechatronics unit or something + its got another recall sticker on it as well.

Since iv had it (iv hit 85k now so iv done bout 6k kms), its had timing chain, tensioners etc. all replaced (under warranty)
Also serviced at Solitare (Brake fluid, pollen filter, checked error codes etc etc.) All good no issues found at all.
      Also done K&N Panel filter...

Always use BP 98 or Shell 98 fuel, going to service it every 7500kms - let it sit in morning for a min once started, dont flog it cold etc. etc.

I have tried to look after all my cars.... all have looked after me Apart from my first car... a VL Commodore..... many many burnouts (ha-ha, to be young again!)
