Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Newbie from VIC

    Hey, how's it going everyone!

My name is Jeffrey, I'm from Victoria. I'm a new-found classic car lover and appreciator. I do not own a car as of yet; in fact I don't even have my license. I have, however, grown an immense interest towards the MK1 Golf and I am absolutely awed to find a forum with so many Volkswagen lovers and MK1 owners.

I'm new to the entire concept of automobiles. I don't even know the basic anatomy of one, but I try my best to do the research that I need to better understand the vehicles that interest me.

I have never really grown up with a background in cars as none of my family members specialised in any sort of profession related with automobiles and the only real experience my family members have provided me is being a passenger in their daily drivers - which, in my eyes were never of any interest.

I do hope to kindle this interest into both a passion and a hobby and I really do hope I can furthermore immerse myself with the community and fellow car lovers!

Hi Jeffrey, welcome to the forum.

There's a strong MK1 group in Melbourne and most of the guys started like you knowing very little about how to fix cars. Over the years they have learnt and now give advice and help to other Golf owners.

Don't be too scared to buy a rough MK1 although a good one will be better but more expensive. They are very easy to work on and there's always someone on this forum who will give advice and point you in the right direction.

    Cheers

    Paul

Welcome to the forum mate! Where in Melbourne are you located? There is quite a few mk1 enthusiasts scattered about the place
