Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi VWwatercooled.
I'm 17, and really interested in buying a Mark4/5 as my first car. My birthday is in 1 month, so I'm bound to buy one by from my parents. And I get my P's on the 29th of Sept. I have a couple of boundaries by my parents for my first car. No moddifications except wheels, and sound system. And it must be Auto with low k's.
After months of research I bought a 2.0 FSI on Thursday from an auction for $5100. Real cheap. Within the week, of being able to test the car before paying full price for it, I experienced a lot of engine faults. We took it to VW service, and found out 2 of the doors don't lock, The car doesn't switch into 3rd gear and revs to about 8000revs at 50km/h. And the car shook going uphill, which would result in a total price of about 2-3 thousand, so I got it returned yesterday. Now I'm looking for more...
Im just here to enjoy and learn more about these beauties.
    Thanks

So you've already learnt your 1st lesson - drive it before you buy it. If it feels good to drive AND you can look at it with a critical eye then you get serious about buying it.

Welcome to the forum, lots of friendly and helpful people here.

    Cheers

    Paul
