Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD new to this

    Hi Everyone
new to this forum. My name is Harry and me and my twin brother and my sister own VW Golfs
I have a silver 2008 R32 with leather and 120000 k ( just had major service ) and my brother owns a 2006 GTI with same ks and just had a major service. Both are 5 door.
My sister just bought an 05 VW Golf 1.6l and she just got it today. She wants to take out the power window cluster to have it painted as it is looking very shabby but we are not sure if it is easy to do. She also has the airbag light on but I guess we will have to take it to a dealer to sort out. I hope it will not be expensive but any feedback on these matters would be very welcome.
Thank you again and I look forward to getting on this forum.

I also had an airbag error on my MKV golf.

Took it to a dealer and they said $1,000 to replace the airbag computer.
Took it to my local mechanic and they replaced a faulty sensor instead which only cost $400.

So make sure you get a 2nd opinion!

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. Just to make things a bit clearer I ( Tim ) am the dad. The two boys ( 23 year olds and still expect me to do everything) are my sons. My daughter who has bought the 05 Golf is 20 and Dad has to do everything. By the way the only time I get to drive these cars is when they need fuel or repairs ( and expected to pay for them) YES I know I am stupid. That's why I joined the forum to try and save some money. I just paid $3560 for 2 services on the GTI and the R32 ( 120000k ) plus brakes on the GTI and now they tell me they are going to sell them and get new ones. GO FIGURE!!!!!

Harry has owned this car for 3 years. Just had 120000k service at 116000k that cost $1400 at the dealer. It has log books and it is immaculate. The interior is like new. If you want photos I can send them from my phone to you if you wish. ( not sure how to do photos on the site. My No is 0417 732 496
