Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie with tdi electrical woes

Hi all , new to this forum as a registered user, but have had a look now and then otherwise
Currently the wife's mk5 golf 2.0 tdi won't go , turns over but no go , l'm presuming it's the fuel pump as the battery's new ( also have something draining that too, found the usual broken wires in 2 doors for a start )
would anyone have a diagram of the under bonnet fuse box ? As I checked them one night and I think I might not have got them back in there correct positions as now we have an airbag light on !

Anyway l'll keep looking around, hopefully someone here can help as the local vw are hopeless !!

    cheers ken

One of the relays in the top of the E-box in the engine bay craps out in these.

Gives a similar symptom of cranking, but not running. Since you've got a weakened battery, it's worth jumping off another battery while you carry out your testing, as you need to spin the motor up to at least 280rpm before it'll fire anyway.

Well got it going via a few jump start attemps , the last of about 3 went on for about 45? Seconds before it spluttered into life , then ran nicely , it's like the fuel had to prime up or similar , anyway all good so far
still have to get some quotes on replacing the LH door loom as I can't use my arm for anther 5 weeks due to a shoulder op
still have the airbag light showing , otherwise no other lit warnings

        cheers

I have had similar problems with my TDI Mk5 was parked on an incline and would start the next morning. Even the NRMA couldn't get it going. Had to get it towed 60km to the nearest VW dealer who got it going after around 30 mins.

Hi , yep and everything's shut atm ..... Ours was in the shed on concrete no incline , hey could I bother you to take a picture of the fuse layout in the box under the bonnet ? as the ones I have seen pics of have all been different due to different countries or options , that'd be really appreciated if you could !!
            Cheers Ken
