Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA Newbie looking at buying Mk6 Golf R

    Hi All

My name is Sam, looking at buying a mk6 golf R, any advice appreciated? Issues to look for? Differences between each year? My budget is around 35-37k what can I expect to get for around this price?

    Many Thanks

    hi Sam,

cant offer any advice on the car itself, but I can recommend you dont limit your search to Perth/WA only.

Buying a car ex east will expand your market dramatically, and provide you a far greater choice of colours, options etc. there's typically around 8-10 times more cars ex east than in WA.

East cars are often a bit cheaper too, so the savings will pay for transport costs

      Thanks Gareth

I've never bought a car interstate but I am keeping a lookout. Is it a complicated process bringing one in to WA? I would have to fly over and inspect the car too.

Ive purchased 3 cars ex east and not inspected any.

Once I've found one I like, I get the owner to email lots of good pics of the leather, paint etc.

Once I'm happy with that, I then get it booked into an independent specialist to get a full inspection incling paint and leather condition, evidence of crash repairs, condition of clutch, brake pads etc and inspection of log books.

costs around $1300 to transport over, and you have to get a movement permit from Main Roads, to take it in for pit inspection and licensing and stamp duty.

you dont pay Eastern States Stamp Duty if you return the ES plate, and you can get a partial refund of any rego already paid ex east.
