  • Newbie, massive VW fan recently moved from the UK

Hello all, names Bruce. I've recently moved to Byron in NSW from the UK and am very happy to have found a VW community! I was a bit worried I'd have to start liking Fords or something. I've been a huge Volkswagen Audi Group fan since getting my licence at 17. Mk4 Golfs are my particular kryptonite, but I've owned a range of the companies stuff, like Audi's and Seats. When I got here I bought a A4 B7 Avant in an attempt to quell the Golf urge, unfortunately it hasn't really worked! I'd really love to get a classic Golf now, but I know Mk2's are hard to find here, please correct me if I'm wrong though!? Anyway enough chatter, here are some pics of the cars I left behind in the UK. As you'll see I like a clean subtly modified style.
I do miss Mk4 3 doors, this was my first one, a lowly 1.4 litre but I loved it

    Replaced by this PD115 diesel

Replaced by this Seat Ibiza 2 litre, basically a Polo 9n underneath

Then finally got what I always wanted, a proper 3 door 1.8T GTi

cool, welcome mate. Pretty jealous of the stuff you guys can get back in the UK, shame we didn't get the 3door mk4's here, only in the r32's.

Hey, thanks for the welcome. Yeah i'm beginning to see just how spoilt I was in the UK, golfs everywhere at next to nothing prices. Ahh well I'll just have save up! I do like a Mk4 R32, i'm guessing VW didn't ship a whole lot to Aus?

Yeah I suspect i'll adjust and find myself an owner of one again. Might have to look towards mk5's to get my 3 door fix though.

The occasional MK2 can be found for sale but they will be 4 doors. Lots of MK1's in 2 and 4 doors though.

Sweet, hearing positives about finding a classic is making me very happy indeed, I've always looked past the Mk1, but I think they are the better design out of the first 2 generation golfs. Can't beat the original I guess!

Sounds like there's a few of us here .

                  Welcome mate, I had a 1.4LS MK3 and a 1.6 MK4 at home.

                  Since being here I've had a MK4 GTI and a MK5 2.0 FSI.

I'm in the saving process and trying to decide between the new 2015 Polo GTI or a MK6 Golf GTI.

I've gotta say, that's a nice Ibiza you had! Wish you could get them here!

Thanks, I liked my Seat, used mine on track a few times once I had it set up right. Think Seat pulled out of Aus in the late 90's so a rare breed here! Very Jealous of the choice you've got on your hands, personally I'd take a Mk6 though.

Nice, what was the Seat pulling in KW/HP?

I've always loved Seat's, I really wanted a 98' Ibiza in red back in the day!.

Are you looking at getting a MK2? GTI?

My favourite car has always been the MK4 R32, which even though there's only 200 here, they seen to crop up for sale often. Rarely sub 18k though.

It was running about 150bhp with a new manifold, full exhaust system, induction kit and remap, but it was naturally aspirated so liked a good rev! Fairly light too so it was no slouch.

Yeah its a Mk2 I'm after, always been my fav golf, although if Mk1's are bit more common I wouldn't pass on a good one. A friend used to have a Mk5 R32, best noise I've ever heard a car make!
