Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi, I'm the new guy

    Hey everyone

I'm Louis (louish) from Sydney, I drive a Pepper Grey 2014 VW Tiguan 132TSI Pacific
Really wanted a Golf R but the missus wants to start a family so the tiggy made a lot more sense - it's a great looking car but needs a little customising it to make it less soccer mum more grown-up GTI

    Used to drive a 2005 Mazda RX8, before that a 2004 Subaru WRX and 1st car was a 1996 Civic VTi-R

This is my first new and european car - but definitely not my last. Also first time i've joined a forum as i need all the help i can get. Great to meet you guys, please be patient and thanks in advance for all the help you're about to give me

    Welcome to the forums mate.
The 132TSI is a great base to build off if you want bang for your buck performance.

      Hi, I'm the new guy

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see another Tig owner.

My wife wanted the Tig and I reluctantly agreed but haven't regretted the decision.

Tune it and put in some lowering springs and you'll have close to Golf R performance for $20k less

Hey tigger just saw your thread- nice ride. I like the 18s on it and the stance- what size tyres and how much did you lower it by?

Thanks Louish. It's taken a couple of years to get the car to where it is now. I'm running 19x8 ET35 rims with 245/40r19 tyres. These sit just inside the guards without running guard extensions.

Also I'm running Eibach progressive rate lowering springs - drop is around 35mm. There's also H&R springs for the Tiguan which are slightly lower (40mm) however a few of the earlier guys that put them in took them back out as they reckon the ride was a bit jiggly over the bumps. I haven't had a problem with the Eibach springs though I sometimes do get the springs binding on full lock going through a drain/entering a driveway.

Thanks bro. You pretty much saved me weeks of research and hundreds of dollars with that reply. I'm gonna get my **** together and run a similar set up coz that's how I want my tig to look- when I do I'll post pics up

No problems. That's what this forum is about

And yes please post up your pics as it may well help others with making a decision... perhaps check out the Tiguan wheel thread for inspiration: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...uan-47674.html

Also make sure you get some before shots as well. I've learnt that it's a little too late once you've already made the changes. Often get part-way through a job and remember that I should probably take some photos so that I remember how to put my car back together

Silly question - I've got a couple of queries about recommendations of who/where to go to get stuff done for the tig around sydney. Should I post a new thread?

I'm gonna try to do some basic stuff myself but I'm pretty crap with electronics and mechanical stuff would rather leave it to the experts

                    Hi, I'm the new guy

Probably can't help much here as I'm in Adelaide and yes you're likely right that this thread isn't the best place to get the advice you're looking for.

I suggest searching the forum first before starting a new thread as often the question (or something similar) has been asked before and you can either find the info or add to an existing thread (makes it easier for people searching for info in the future if it's all in the same thread).

If you don't get much joy from the site search function, use Google and add "site:www.vwwatercooled.com" and you'll get all the hits from this site
